Ryan Hirons

Ryan started out in motoring journalism in 2017 with the Press Association, testing hundreds of vehicles from superminis to sports cars (and all the SUVs in between), before moving to carwow early in 2021. There, he would contribute to the YouTube channel’s success of reaching over eight million subscribers and several multi-million-view videos. 

Landing at Car Throttle as News and Features Editor in 2023, Ryan’s daily duties include keeping you updated with the latest news in the automotive world and creating some of our bespoke longer reads - plus chiming in with his views of the newest cars in on test. 

When he’s not writing cars, you’ll find Ryan pretending to drive them on the sim or playing with radio-controlled ones. He blames Gran Turismo for an obsession with anything JDM and ever-rising Skyline prices keeping him awake at night. He refuses to sell his Suzuki Swift Sport, despite constantly staring at EP3 Civic Type Rs in the classifieds. 

If there's no engine involved, it’s usually because of football, gigs or even a bit of baking from time to time.
