As Porsche announces their departure from LMP1 for Formula E, similarly to Audi, many people have been expressing concern that the LMP1 category will be gone for good. With nobody to compete with remaining competitor Toyota, the future of the category looks bleak. LMP1 however is very much here to stay.

"Death of Carthrottle" talk needs to stop. If the community wants change we need to act not complain
Lately many users have noticed that there are less active users on carthrottle lately, which is definitely true. This problem has been approached in the incorrect way however, and I myself have been guilty of this somewhat. Many users have taken to complaining and making posts asking people to talk about the problem when really we should be trying to fix it. Post more content to get the community more involved. Write blog posts. Start conversations in the comments. More user interaction is what’s needed right now because as many of you have said there isn’t enough of it.

The new Dodge Demon has been somewhat polarizing since its reveal. Some people think it’s useless because it’s impractical, while others argue that it isn’t anything new, that other cars have been turning some of the same numbers for years. The flares are too big, the scoop is too obnoxious, the list of complaints people make goes on and on. This car was built for entirely different reasons, and to see these reasons we’ll need to take a bit of a history lesson.

In 1982, BF Goodrich ran a Porsche 924 with road based T/A Radial tires to a class victory at Le Mans, and with a bigger budget and a thirst for better publicity for the tires they decided to move up to the C2 class for 1984. The team called Lola and asked them to build a chassis, and they delivered. Lola chose their already established T600 as the basis for this new car, which would be designed around a very unique engine. Following the class victory of Mazda in C2 the previous year with the 717C, BF Goodrich made an agreement with Mazda to run their wankel rotary engines.

After the failures of Mazda’s previous two rally cars, a front wheel drive Group A 323 and a rear wheel drive Group B RX-7, Mazda hit a turning point. They needed to prove themselves in rally racing to compete with other Japanese manufacturers. Rather than developing a completely new Group B monster they chose to move back down to Group A and take the trusty 323 to a new level. They produced a new homologation special for the road that would allow them to take on Group A. They fitted the 323 with a new all wheel drive system and turbocharged the 1.6L 4 cylinder.

A car that I’ve debated putting in my garage for a long time. It’s my dad’s car but it feels so much a part of me that I’ve finally given in and chosen to put it up.

The Pikes Peak International Hillclimb began in 1916 when the Pikes Peak carriageway was widened and renamed the Pikes Peak Highway. The course was fully gravel and very technical, 12.4 miles (20km) in length and with 156 corners. The race was won in its first year by Rea Lentz, in an aero engined car in a time of 20:55.6. As the years went on the cars only got faster, with increasingly specialized open wheeled hillclimb cars dominating the event. The second longest continuously running auto race in America was born.

Starting in 2014 the LMP1 category was split into two sub classes: LMP1-H and LMP1-L. The LMP1-H class contains the extremely fast hybrid machines we have become familiar with, and the LMP1-L class retained its simple internal combustion to keep costs down. For 2014, 2015, and 2016, there were two solid manufacturers in the class: Rebellion Racing and ByKolles. The former has left for the cheaper LMP2 class this year, where they can purchase a chassis rather than building their own.

The age old question for car guys seems to be this: Which is better, JDM, Muscle, or Euro? Ignoring the fact that this completely ignores the vivid car culture of Australia, it also shouldn’t be the question we ask at all. If nobody can agree on which is better, the question has no real answer, and if the question has no answer we shouldn’t be asking it at all. While the culture surrounding each country’s types of cars may be different, all car guys really have the same goals in mind: enjoying cars.

The Trans Am series or Trans-American Sedan Championship started out in 1966 with two distinct classes: Under 2L and over 2L. Both classes had to be production car based. The under 2L class was dominated by light cars like Alfa Romeos and Lotuses. The over 2L class however contained the common American Muscle cars of the era, although some would argue that many of the cars run were pony cars and not muscle at all. The series was run entirely on road courses, creating unique challenges for the manufacturers in trying to lighten their cars and keep them from breaking.

Mazda has developed and been leasing two types of cars with hydrogen powered rotary engines, an eco friendly version of the engine notorious for having terrible fuel economy and being unable to meet emissions requirements. The hydrogen rotary project is interesting because it not only runs on hydrogen, but it can also run on typical gasoline, allowing it to have a large range.

In 1978 Mazda had decided to put in a factory effort in the popular IMSA GT Championship, a North American racing series which was production based and at the time not too high budget. For the first year they entered the RX-3, which was a mid pack car, but it allowed Mazda to collect data, data which could be used in the development of the car for the following year: the RX-7.

1st Generation (2003-2008) The first generation of the RX-8 was released the year after the final departure of the beloved RX-7 in Japan, and it left many people disappointed. The successor replaced the twin turbos of the previous car with natural aspiration, despite keeping the same sized 1.3L 2 rotor engine. Mazda gave this new version of the 13B a new name as well, the RENESIS.

My grandpa is a mechanic in Monterey California, and since I’m on vacation there for Christmas right now, I went down to his shop to check out his updated sim setup. The new setup was better than I had thought from what he had told me. He has a full three monitor setup with a heavy duty gaming computer so he can run Project Cars on Ultra settings at high FPS. It also has a racing seat with headphones wrapped around the headrest so that the driver can get the full sound without disturbing the people around them.

I hate that I have nobody to talk about cars with in person, and that everyone thinks cars are stupid. I get nothing but hate when I talk about cars, but I don’t ever want to give them up. I know that it isn’t a problem, and it doesn’t really get in the way of school work, but I can’t convince my teachers, family, or friends of that. Nobody understands that cars are my passion, and nobody thinks that it is possible to care as much as I do about cars. Any time they ask me about a random car fact, I give an immediate answer, and they make fun of me for knowing those things.

My first car! Picked up used for $2500. Planning on cleaning the headlights and replacing the roof moldings first, then making some other mods when I have more money
