After a shock press release issued by Ferrari, 4-time WDC Seb Vettel has announced he will retire at the end of the 2021 Formula 1 season.

Now I can’t say I’m surprised, but McLaren’s new technical director has quit the team before even taking position. “Too political “ he says… Such a shame… Even as my favourite team, I can’t say I’m happy with the way McLaren are running their racing operations at the moment. If they want to close up to the top 3, they’ve got to buck their ideas up and listen to how other people want to operate, not just themselves.. Take a look at the BBC Sport article below. He was killed on this day in 1977 at the South African GP at Kyalami. Tomarted his F1 career at the Belgian GP in 1974 with Token Racing in the RJ02 chassis. The race was held at Circuit Nivelles-Baulers, which was used twice in ‘72 and ‘74 and was deemed a “safe alternative” to Spa. Almost too safe as the drivers and spectators didn’t like it. Tom however, retired from the race.

After the events of the 2018 Brazilian GP, many are questioning the integrity of the FIA - the governing body of all European Motorsports.

Max Verstappen, moderately successful Dutch F1 driver who followed in the footsteps of his father, Jos, who was a driver in the 1990s and early 2000s. He has 4 wins to his name along with 17 podiums, including one at Singapore just last week. Verstappen is known for his relentless speed and unwillingness to give up. His skills are well known and is often compared to the greatest of F1.

Many remember particular races that changed an era, races that changed the future of the sport. But none quite like the 1978 Italian Grand Prix. Lotus teammates Mario Andretti and Ronnie Peterson lined up on pole and P5 respectively, not knowing what was to come next. The Lotus 79 ground effect car radically changed F1, with Lotus totally dominating the championship that year, with Andretti and Peterson in the lead by a fair margin.

Over the past few races, the Ferrari cars have been spotted sporting a yellow bag on top of the airbox/onboard camera, making fans, other teams and the FIA skeptical over this tactic. This brightly coloured bag is filled with dry ice, as a cooling aid - but what for exactly? There are several explanations for it. Here’s why.. Ferrari’s official statement says that the bag is used to cool the electronics within the onboard camera. But this has made the FIA rather wiery, seeing as there is no actual evidence to prove this.

Some still maintain that the racing was better in the old days, when the points system was a lot tighter, and the fight for those points was more dramatic.

Many of you may have seen this wierd substance in F1 before. This is Flow-vis paint, known in the industry as Airflow-Visualisation. This is used during testing sessions when teams are testing new aerodynamic parts for the cars. Flow-vis is a florescent water-based liquid that is sprayed onto parts, wings, brake ducts etc., and when the car is driven round the circuit, the airflow effectively pushes the paint around as if it were air.

For those that do not know, Lewis Hamilton was summoned to the stewards office after a small incident during last weekend’s German Grand Prix.

James Hunt is the 1976 World Drivers Champion, winning his only championship with McLaren in the M23, powered by the iconic Ford-Cosworth DFV V8. James was a veteran of 10 race wins. He is probably best known for his ‘76 title battle with Ferrari driver Niki Lauda. The Austrian put up a fight right up until the last race of the season, in Fuji, Japan. Hunt won the title by a single point, after Lauda’s retirement from the race — Lauda’s famous Nürburgring crash also allowed Hunt to catch up in the championship race.

This is the McLaren MP4-18, the car designed to be McLaren’s title challenger for the 2003 Formula 1 season. Michael Schumacher and the Ferrari F2002 was a dominant force. McLaren barely had a chance at winning either of the championships. For the 2003 season, Ron Dennis and his team at McLaren built the MP4-18. Initially, scale model tests raised good hopes and promised fireworks with the Italian outfit, but then came pre-season testing. There were several problems however during said pre-season testing, including a heavy crash with Alex Wurz at the wheel.

Born 4th July 1960 in Salzburg, Austria, he began his racing career in German Formula Ford in the mid-1980s, winning the Central European Championship in 1985.

Prepare yourselves for another blog post, but this time it’s about a car. Or actually, a trike… Immediately after the Second World War, the ‘talanted’ people of Germany wanted to have a go at building their own cars. Take this example from 1951 created by a Mr A. Hoffmann, from Munich. This example was built over a two year period from 1949. The car was based on a giant triangular frame that was cannibalised from another German feat of engineering, the Goliath Pionier (Which is a very Ironic name actually, see photo below).

Some of you may have seen by now my post photo my most recent purchase, a 2016 (although it’s a ‘65 plate) Honda NSC50R, as in, R for ‘Type R’. Now some of you hater may be saying; “Why have you posted that here? This is CAR Throttle”. But you other, less douchebaggy CTzens may also be saying; “Why a moped? Why not get a car?”.

It may not seem obvious at first, but I, and many other CTzens, have reasons why the Z06 is NOT a muscle car. Here are some to name a few: - 1) The car is too technologically advanced: This may seem a bit stupid. But a muscle car must be a lump of steel, with simple technology and a big engine. Take the Mustang for example. Until the new model was released a couple years back, the car had a live rear axle! (This meaning both rear/drive wheels were constantly spinning at the same speed).
