Vintage/Future Classic Cars That Aren't Expensive (yet)
Toyota SW20 MR2
Toyota SW20 MR2

Can be obtained for $5,000, mid engined, great aftermarkert support, POP UPS BRO! and classy looks that is often mistaken as a Ferrari by non-car guys (hence the nickname poor man’s Ferrari).
The 3S-GE engine cranks out 163 horsepower to the rear wheels and with the weight on the back of the car, this makes novice drivers exposed to the dreaded snap-overesteer that gave this car Mr. Regular’s title for the most dangerous car ever made. If you don’t drive like an arse and want a beautiful mid engined, rear wheel drive sports car, you can’t go wrong with a Toyota MR2.
A little more patience and maybe a bit more cash can get you a nice AW11 MR2 which has more of that vintage look as well as the legendary 4A-GE. Still money left over? Get some independent throttle bodies and a decent exhaust and you will have one of the (if not) the best sounding 4 bangers on the road.
I would:
(SW20) 2GR-FE engine swap, Autostrada Modena wheels in bronze
BMW E30 318is

Want an E30 M3? Yes? Do you have money? Yes? Go get one. Otherwise, here’s it’s cheap alternative. Still has that beautiful classic looks of an M3 without the price and power. I find that to be a good thing. Hear me out.
Having little power (only 89 horsepower) means you won’t wrap yourself around a tree so easily and you can drive it fast without actually driving fast. James may once said, that driving a slow car fast is more fun than driving a fast car slow. Rear wheel drive makes this a great car to learn how to drift.
I would:
Rivited fender flares, independent throttle bodies, BBS LM
Holden Monaro/Pontiac GTO

Okay, I don’t know if the Monaro will go lower in prices than it is now. I’ve only been in this beautiful country for 5 years and only started to educate myself about these cars last week. But the GTO can be obtained for as low as $10,000; and that’s for a 6.0 model. Whereas here (Australia), a 5.7 can set you back upwards $20,000. Amazing what a badge can do to a car’s resale value.
Although Prices haven’t gone up yet, the legendary GTO name will guarantee that this car will be remembered in the future.
I would:
VE HSV GTS wheels, flash tune
Mazda NA MX5

Pop ups, rear wheel drive, convertible, pop ups, 2 seater, FRIGGIN KAWAII, oh have I mentioned pop ups yet? This adorable little thing can be picked up for as little as $5,000. Yes you can get the more powerful and more superior MR2 for the same price, but it can’t deliver the same driving experience as the Miata. At only 88 horsepower, it’s not fast. Like the E30, one of the beauty of these things is that you can drive them fast without actually driving fast. If you don’t mind getting gay jokes from jocks in their Mustangs, this car will be perfect for you. Otherwise, opt for the rawer and older E30.
I would:
Rivited fender flares, chrome rollbar, exhaust, coilovers and get these stainless steel interior trim to really get that retro/vintage look like this one:
