The Ford F-22 F-150 Raptor Is 545bhp Of Fighter Jet-Inspired Truck Heaven
Feast your eyes on this very special Ford F-150, a one-off collector’s car that has just been auctioned off for a good cause.
This awesome machine, which looks like it rolled straight off the set of Top Gun, The A-Team, Airwolf or some other late 1980s/early 1990s action drama, was built by DeBerti Design. It might be a bit retro to look at, but it has raised $300,000 to benefit the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Gathering of Eagles; an event that encourages young people to get involved with flight.
Taking the US Air Force’s Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor as its inspiration, the special F-150’s aim is to “intimidate the competition,” said a spokesman from Ford. It uses an uprated 3.5-litre twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 pushing out 545bhp and 660lb ft of torque, which we’ll admit is a fairly aggressive place to start.
There are six-piston Alcon brakes wrapping oversized rotors with high-friction pads, a roof-mounted LED light bar worth 1.3 million extra candela of forward lighting and a high-end Fox and Deaver suspension setup.
Elsewhere the beast gets power-retracting side steps, a stainless steel cat-back Borla exhaust and genuine carbonfibre trim extras on the body. The ‘cockpit’ is pretty extreme, too, we’re told, but there aren’t any pictures of that.
Ford has raised over $3 million for the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Gathering of Eagles since 2008, mostly by selling one-off custom builds like this. Long may that continue!
