Agreed, though some crashes with modded cars can become quite funky…

You have to hail to the king of soft-body physics.

It is the best IMO but sometimes I feel like the cars get damaged more easily than IRL, which is funny

It’s gotta be project cars. Bodywork, wings, and even wheels can just pop on off in the case of a crash! And don’t even get me started on mechanical damage, ohhhh, that’s even better! Crash head on the engine works worse

Dirt Rally is better at that tho, it even deforms the chassis itsself, the damage to the driving is just mean

I was going to say beamng.drive, however I’m going to be different and say burnout paradise. A racing game and damage model way ahead of its time coupled to some of the most balenced racing mechanics gave a game year 7 me played over 400 hours of!

since when is Beam NG a racing game? Burnout Paradise by a long way.

Well you know, a “soon to be” racing game…

Paradise’s crashes are incredible satisfying to watch though…

There are some races (I think 3 in the Rocky Start campain and few mods) so it’s kinda a racing game. Everyone calls a car driving game racing game anyway.

Agreed, still impressive to this day.

Need for speed shift 2, because you can fly away, make 10 barrel rolls and damage all the car when you overturn at 50 kmh.
P.D: it’s a joke.

I love Shift 2. Too bad it thinks my pc racing wheel is an Xbox controller…

I guess Forza has very realistic low speed damage, like bumper to bumper mid race stuff, but when it comes to direct impacts at high speed, well…

Everyone is saying Beam.NG Drive… It is not a racing game… First of all it is a Soft Body Physics simulation NOT a game and second of all, when did you do any proper racing in it? Yeah i know that you can do these weird events against AIs but that isn’t proper racing

01/12/2017 - 19:47 |

And i would say the best damage model in a racing game is Project Cars

I thought I remembered your name, lmao I know you from the LFS forum.

Anyways BeamnBG is now classified a game, it’s on Steam (which is a gaming platform) and many people refer to it as a game. It’s a simulation game, not a racing game.

01/13/2017 - 00:20 |

It’s a game now, there’s even a “campaign mode” you can play through and complete challenges and stuff. It was originally designed as a simulation to test suspension, but now it’s just a fun game

I would honestly have to say Dirt Rally, you hit a tree, your car shows that visible damage, you clip a wall heavily with your rear left wheel, there’s a possibility you lock that wheel, bend it out of alignment, or lose it entirely, same goes for sliding into a ditch. All while losing or bending body panels or suffering other mechanical damage. While, yes, Beam NG Drive has undoubtedly the best damage model of any game, it isn’t exactly a racing game yet, more of a driving sandbox.

Absolutely agree. Hands down Beamng Drive has the best damage model and physics in general, but for an actual game, I would also say Dirt Rally for an actual game. While Wreckfest may be a tad better, Dirt Rally has the best damage for real cars and being undoubtably the better game itsself
