What car completely changed your perceptions of something?

For me, it was the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 that changed my perception of American cars. I’ve always dismissed ‘Murican cars as, for me, life is more than just a straight line. Corners are where the fun is at.

For me, it was the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 that changed my perception of American cars. I’ve always dismissed ‘Murican cars as, for me, life is more than just a straight line. Corners are where the fun is at. But then the Z/28 came along and even the most biased European had to sit up and take notice. And it even looks stunning, too.

We want to know what car completely changed your opinion about something. Perhaps it was an electric car that converted you from ICE, a manual that made you realise sometimes auto is the answer, or perhaps a manufacturer you hated made something epic. Let us know in the comments and we’ll share the best!

Use of electric motors in “driver’s cars”. Aka high performance hybrids.

The Golf Mk IV made me realize that the VW brand had gotten very dull and uncaring in the span of ten years.

The fairly obvious ones. The Porsche 918, Ferrari LaFerrari and Mclaren P1. The three cars that completely changed the rule book for not just supercars, but hybrids too.

To me? There are a few. AMG SLS was one. I thought Mercedes was always sensible and not fun enough compared with BMW. Then SLS came along and it tore the rule book of how to be a Mercedes. And eats all the pages.

Then there’s the 997 GT3 RS 4.0, which has converted me from an anti-Porsche into a Porsche-ophile.

The current gen Mustang, well really any of the current gen “muscle” cars. Even being an American I had no lust for MUSCLE. I fully understand why people like them so much, but I prefer more then just raw power. With all the advancements Ford, Chevy and Dodge have had with their lineups though, I can actually say “Wow, that is a nice car”. They are no longer massive go straight engines with cheap, poorly built people carrying cases being dragged along with it. They are properly built with nice interiors and some real handling capabilities, not that they handle better then the competition, but they are getting their. Thank you US government for bailing these car companies out and helping them realize no one wanted their cheap garbage.

Fiat multipla. I never hated how cars look until my dad rented one whilst travelling in Europe and we had to stick with it for 2 weeks. However it grew on me with the amazing packaging under the body.

My GFs Alfa Romeo Mito (1.4 MultiAir Turbo, 135hp) blew my mind. I used to look at these new Alfas (Mito, Giulietta) as female oriented models. Their soft lines and mellow looks left a lot to be desired to someone who found that sharp angles and agressive looks were the way to go.
As soon as I got behind the wheel, with the Dinamic mode ON, I could do nothing but smile and think how much I underestimated that pocket rocket.
Since that day, a Giulietta QV is on my wishlist, and to go with looks, it might even be pink. But sure as hell it’ll have a few skulls to go with the personality!
