What Good Deeds Do You Do As A Petrolhead?
I went shopping in Lidl today, and when I arrived back at my MX-5 in what was a rammed car park, a lady in a wonkily-parked car next to me wound down her window and asked if I could park her car straight. Naturally, I jumped at the chance to help a damsel in distress, so I squeezed into the driver’s seat of a Vauxhall Astra, quickly worked out how to use the automatic gearbox and did what I do best: park like a hero (although on this occasion with a line of cars watching my incredible act of heroism, I very nearly backed into a guy pushing a trolly).
Anyway, after jumping out, the lady thanked me and seemed genuinely relieved that she could get on with her life. And this got me thinking: what do we/can we do to make the lives of other people easier and better? Do you let trucks out, for example? Do you stop and see if you can help when someone has their bonnet up at the side of the road? Or, like me just now, have you simply parked a person’s car when spatial awareness got the better of them?
