What's an underrated engine that deserves some time in the limelight? I'd like to put forward the Toyota 3S-GE 'Beams' engine. Probably overshadowed by the 2JZ, but it's super revvy, tuneable, and produced with Yamaha.
I would put the 1.6 16v 140bhp Renault engine. Sounds a little bit before the 3500rpm and later sounds really well and supports high rev too.
I’d say the 5.8l Ford Cleveland v8
Wasn’t it a 5.7L? You mean the 351C right?
How about the 2T-G? The one that came before the 4A-GE series?
Ohhh yess. 1.6 L Twin cam before it was cool.
7M-GE/7M-GTE
Powers the MA60 Celica Supra and MA70 Supra but overshadowed by its successor, 2JZs
Beat me to it
as long as you don’t mind replacing head gaskets as often as you change your oil. In all seriousness, they’re great engines if you take care of the few problems they have (like just about any other engine out there).
I would say Alfa’s 4-cylinder TwinSpark engine. with it’s 2-spark plugs per cylinder, totaling 8 spark plugs per engine, it’s certainly unique. unfortunately, most would go for it’s V6 brother, the Busso.
Not totally unique. The Nissan NAPS-Z engines of the early ‘80s also used two plugs per cylinder. I had the 2.2L version in my ‘82 Datsun 200SX, my first car.
B16B because v-tak and type R(acing)
Yes the beems motor!!! Mabey a 4age toyota engine would be nice to come back.
3S-GE overall…
1.6 16v 140 hp Renault engine.
I think the beetle engine. That thing was so simple, it was produced for some 65 years. And you can chamge the timing belt while it runs!
And there are cases where people have “drilled” these engines from 1.6l to as much as 2.4l. I’m serious there is 2.4l old school beetle in sale for 12 900€
