What's an underrated engine that deserves some time in the limelight? I'd like to put forward the Toyota 3S-GE 'Beams' engine. Probably overshadowed by the 2JZ, but it's super revvy, tuneable, and produced with Yamaha.

I would put the 1.6 16v 140bhp Renault engine. Sounds a little bit before the 3500rpm and later sounds really well and supports high rev too.

I would say Alfa’s 4-cylinder TwinSpark engine. with it’s 2-spark plugs per cylinder, totaling 8 spark plugs per engine, it’s certainly unique.
unfortunately, most would go for it’s V6 brother, the Busso.

I think the beetle engine. That thing was so simple, it was produced for some 65 years. And you can chamge the timing belt while it runs!
