Fernando Alonso’s McLaren – surprise, surprise – ground to a halt in qualifying. He tried to push the car back to the pits by himself, before some marshals gave him a helping hand. This was all done in vain, however, as he wasn’t able to take part in the rest of the session.

Daniel Ricciardo was so happy about finishing third in Hungary, that he dropped his trophy during a post-race interview. Awkward!

The Blancpain Endurance Series returned to the track last weekend with the iconic Spa 24 Hours. In the action-packed race, we saw 10 Safety Car periods in total. BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS took an emotional home victory, with the #46 Z4 driven by Nick Catsburg, Markus Palttala and Lucas Luhr.

Kyle Busch won his third consecutive Nascar Sprint Cup race at the Brickyard 400 last weekend, beating Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It’s a remarkable comeback from Busch, after he missed the first 11 races due to an injury.

Blake Koch lost control of his car after contact with David Starr during the Nascar Xfinity series, hitting the wall hard. The race was won by Busch, making it a clean-sweep in Indianapolis.

GP2 and GP3 were also in action in Hungary. Alex Lynn and Nobuharu Matshushita won in GP2, while Luca Ghiotto and Kevin Ceccon took victory in the two GP3 events.

In the second GP3 race, Ferrari junior driver Antonio Fuoco and Emil Bernstorff tried to run side-by-side on the first lap through the tight sector two chicane. Bad idea. The two made contact, and Fuoco went airborne and into the barriers.

9. Double in Detroit

The Red Bull Global Rallycross was in action last weekend in Detroit, with two races at Belle Isle. Ken Block won race one, with Patrik Sandell coming back from an earlier driveshaft failure to win race two.

Round five of Formula Drift – ‘The Throwdown’ - took place in Seattle. It was the battle of the American muscle in the top eight, with Justin Pawlak’s Mustang colliding with Tyler McQuarrie’s Camaro in dramatic style! Fredric Aasbø won at the Evergreen Speedway.
