The honda S2000 is not only a great car, but also very unique one. One of carthrottle’s video, “10 things you didn’t know about the Honda S2000”, explained 10 of reasons. But aren’t they missing some? Allow me to list them…

Piston speed of F20C

10 more things you didn't know about the Honda S2000

The maximum piston speed of AP1 S2000 is 25.2m/s. This is still fastest of all Japanese cars.
Imagine pistons going up and down at speed of 90.7km/h…mind blowing!

More than weight distribution

10 more things you didn't know about the Honda S2000

The S2000 has 50:50 weight distribution.
…And all the effort to gather weight to center of the car. Spare tyre, Tools, Battery, Brakes, they are all gathered to center to make the car respond faster to input from the driver.

Not just a model

10 more things you didn't know about the Honda S2000

The S2000 is made in 50th anniversary of Honda(company). Suitable car for such a big role I think.

Before Toyosciobaru

10 more things you didn't know about the Honda S2000

The S2000 has differential that is completely based on that of Mazda. You can use Mazda Bongo(pic above)’s final gear on S2000 to make gear ratio closer.

Clock, you are too late

10 more things you didn't know about the Honda S2000

Video above says S2000 doesn’t have clock, but it was added, from AP2 model.
Rumor in Japan said “Reason for absence of clock is because engineers want you to forget about time when driving this car”, But it was just them forgetting about clock.

Shifter and Handbrake

10 more things you didn't know about the Honda S2000

Shifter has great feeling, and very short throw of 36mm, which naturally makes shifting very quick.
Even trained professional racing driver miss shifted with such throw.
And it has Handbrake on passenger’s side unlike typical sports car.

Secret of meter

10 more things you didn't know about the Honda S2000

Ever wondered why S2000 has digital meter?
Please look at pic above, and you see that of S2000 and Ayrton Senna’s Formula in season 2.
Ayrton Senna himself requested a digital meter, which has design based on car’s own power-curve.
Later, Nippon seiki made one for him.
And then, so many for S2000s.
The VTEC kicks in (yo) at about 5000RPM, so you should try to keep the RPM around top of curve when racing…just like Mr Senna did.

Will they fit in My Honda?

10 more things you didn't know about the Honda S2000

The pic is from Keiichi Tsuchiya’s retirement seremony, and do you see 6 people…ON it? They wanted to “Take a seat” with Tsuchiya-san.
Sports car that accepts 6 people? It’s Honda S2000.

Propeller shaft rumor

10 more things you didn't know about the Honda S2000

The S2000 is only Honda model with FR layout and propeller shaft.
Honda just didn’t use propeller shaft on FR cars(Even in their previous models such as S800), it made a rumor that says Sōichirō Honda(founder) had a trouble with company that makes propeller shaft.
Rumor is yet to be confirmed nor denied.

Honda S2200?

Oh, and both are used in street racing...
Oh, and both are used in street racing...

The S2000 and Nissan 180SX has similar point.
Both has a name, which is based on their engine displacements. but when both of them got engine expanded by 200CC, Both of their name stayed same!

How was this article? can you come up with more? please comment!

EDIT: I forgot to put word “about” before “5000RPM” on VTEC part. now it’s fixed.

Nice! You know. I read somewhere that, because the 50:50 weight distribution, the S2000 wasn’t a very good drift car.

It’s hard to drift because of the lack of torque.

I heard S2000 responds too quick to be a drift car. I also heard it’s very hard to Keep S2000 sliding.

Lol idk about the European version or the AP1 models, but my 05 AP2 comes with a clock on the tachometer and doesn’t have that awkward headlight washer button
