10 Things You Might Have Missed From A Great Weekend Of Motorsport

1. Newgarden victorious at Barber

The 2015 IndyCar season resumed at the popular Barber Motorsport Park for the Grand Prix of Alabama. Josef Newgarden emerging victorious (his first win in the series) finishing a few seconds clear of a charging Graham Rahal and Scott Dixon.

An crashy IndyCar race on Sunday saw Will Power collide with Takuma Sato, while Stefano Coletti and James Jakes made contact too. There were also some stunning overtakes and battles to get excited about!

3. Meeke breaks British draught

Kris Meeke became the first British driver to win in the WRC since 2002 when he finished Rally Argentina in first place. It was an emotional maiden victory, which he dedicated to the legendary Colin McRae, who mentored Meeke throughout his early career.

After over a month off, WRC returned in Argentina. Behind Meeke, Mads and fellow Brit Elfyn Evans completed the podium. Several big names crashed out and had reliability woes; Sébastien Ogier, for example, finished 17th after engine trouble, Jari-Matti Latvala retired with fuel supply problems and both Andreas Mikkelsen and Thierry Neuville crashed out at the same place.

During the Nascar Sprint Cup at the Richmond International Raceway, Kurt Busch dominated, leading 291 laps en route to victory. Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson were second and third.

The Nascar Xfinity series also raced at Richmond, with Denny Hamlin leading all but two laps of the ToyotaCare 250 to score his 12th win in the series. Joey Logano and Regan Smith were second and third. A big story from the race was a pit fire that put three crew members to hospital.

The 2015 FIA World Rallycross season kicked off in Portugal. Despite far from ideal conditions, it was a spectacular weekend of action, with Johan Kristoffersson taking victory from reigning champion Petter Solberg and Timmy Hansen.

F1 feeder series Formula Renault 3.5 kicked off its 2015 season at Motorland Aragon in Spain. Race one was won by Oliver Rowland, despite not leading a lap. Meindert van Buuren led the entire event but was handed a time penalty for a jump start.

The second race on Sunday was decided at the final corner on the last lap, with Lotus driver Matthieu Vaxiviere going around the outside of McLaren driver Nyck de Vries to take victory.

Conditions at Motorland Aragon were wet on Sunday, with the Formula Renault 3.5 race being red flagged and restarted and the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 race taking place in terrible conditions. Visibility was poor, as Martin Kodric found out when he flew into the back of Jack Aitken at high speed. Ouch!

Plenty of pressure and attention was on Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time F1 champion Michael, as he competed in his first ever single-seater race weekend.

He finished ninth and 12th in the first and second ADAC Formula 4 races, before winning the third and final one by half a second, returning the Schumacher name to the top step of the podium. Good times!
