10 Things You Might Have Missed From Last Weekend’s Motorsport Action

It was a busy weekend of motorsport – including Formula 1, Formula E, V8 Supercars and Nascar – so here are 10 things for you to catch up on!

One of the F1 pit lane cameras captured this Lotus mechanic awkwardly tripping over and hilariously letting off a fire extinguisher during the Australian Grand Prix.

Perhaps it was the same person who wolf-whistled the team’s new development driver Carmen Jorda when the TV cameras focused on her (for the second time) during qualifying.

There was an unusually high number of pit stop problems during the Australian Grand Prix. Carlos Sainz Jr lost over 30 seconds, for example, due to a wheel gun issue, while Kimi Raikkonen retired after his left-rear tyre wasn’t attached properly. Oops.

Unsurprisingly, Pastor Maldonado crashed out of the Australian Grand Prix, although it wasn’t actually his fault this time! Someone managed to capture the accident from trackside and put it in slow motion too. Brilliant.

4. Sparks are back!

Sparks have returned to Formula 1, producing some spectacular camera shots over the weekend – particularly during practice.

The inaugural FIA Formula E 2014/2015 season continued last weekend, with round five taking place in Miami. It proved to be a close finish, with Nicolas Prost winning by 0.4 seconds from Scott Speed (best name in motorsport, right?).

6. You had one job...

There was some confusion at the end of the Miami ePrix race, after the chequered flag waver missed the leading drivers. He eventually got the wake up call, but both Prost and Speed had to be told to stop racing over team radio.

Kevin Harvick emerged victorious at last weekend’s Nascar Sprint Cup CampingWorld.com 500, scoring his fourth consecutive win at the Phoenix International Raceway and seventh in total. He led 224 laps and finished ahead of Jamie McMurray and Ryan Newman.

On Saturday, Nascar’s newly-named Xfinity series was in action at the Phoenix International Raceway. Joey Logano dominated, leading 176 laps to make it four different winners from the first four races.

The V8 Supercars supported the F1 Australian Grand Prix once again, with four action-packed races. Incredibly Mark Winterbottom won every single race, becoming the first driver to do so since Russell Ingall in 1998.

10. Herberth Motorsport wins Hankook 12H Italy-Mugello

The 2015 Hankook 12H Italy-Mugello took place last weekend. The #7 Porsche 997 GT3 R of Herberth Motorsport - driven by Robert Renauer, Alfred Renauer, Ralf Bohn and Daniel Allemann – took the overall victory by two minutes after completing 342 laps.
