10 Things You Might Have Missed From Last Weekend's Motorsport Action

In another busy weekend of motorsport - which included Formula E, Moto GP and Nascar - here are 10 things for you to catch up on:

Last weekend was a big one for motorsport, largely because of the inaugural Formula E Beijing ePrix on Saturday. The all-electric series kick started around a tight and twisty street track in the grounds of China’s Olympic Park, with Nicolas Prost on pole position.

The Frenchman – who is the son of four-time F1 champion Alain – led all but one corner of the race. Nick Heidfeld closed in on Prost in the second part of the race and lunged up the inside at the final turn on the last lap. The two collided, causing this huge crash, and gifted Lucas di Grassi the victory.

2. Rossi returns

Valentino Rossi secured his first win of the 2014 Moto GP season at Misano, with Marc Marquez finishing down in 15th after a crash on lap 10 whilst chasing the Italian down for the lead.

Rossi moved up to second at the start before passing his team-mate Jorge Lorenzo on the third lap. The mistake by Marquez helped ease the pressure on Rossi and he eventually beat Lorenzo to the line by 1.5 seconds, securing his 107th victory and passing 5,000 Grand Prix points.

Brad Keselowski took victory in the opening race for the Chase for the Sprint Cup at the Chicagoland Speedway, after passing both Kyle Larson and Kevin Harvick at the same corner with 15 laps to go. He started from 25th on the grid but quickly moved up the order. Jeff Gordon and Larson completed the podium.

Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse Jr – who have been dating for nearly two years - collided during last weekend’s Nascar Sprint Cup race at Chicagoland. We bet the atmosphere at the dinner table was pretty awkward that night…

Kevin Harvick secured his third Nascar Nationwide series victory at Chicagoland on Saturday. The Jimmy John’s Freaky Fast 300 Powered by Coca-Cola (yes, seriously, that is the name of the race) win was his fourth of the year. Kyle Busch dominated most of the race but dropped down the order in the late pit stop phase. Larson finished second with Busch recovering to third.

19-year-old Pascal Wehrlein, who recently joined the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team as its reserve driver, secured his maiden DTM win last weekend at the Lausitzring, but all eyes were on Marko Wittmann as he was crowned 2014 champion with sixth place.

Selfies don’t get any cooler than those taken while driving an F1 car. Caterham F1 driver Marcus Ericsson took his phone on a demo run in Sweden on Saturday, even slowing down to take a few pictures.

8. VW clean sweep

Sebastien Ogier led a Volkswagen podium clean sweep at Rally Australia, with the Frenchman winning by 6.8 seconds from Jari-Matti Latvala. Andreas Mikkelsen was a further 1 minute 11.2 seconds further back. Kris Meeke was the highest non-VW driver, finishing fourth in his Citroen DS3.

Former Jordan F1 driver Narain Karthikeyan lost control of his car during a Super Formula qualifying session in Japan and crashed heavily at the Autopolis circuit.
