Marc Marquez’s dominant run of consecutive pole positions came to an end at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain on Saturday. The Repsol Honda rider lost control of his bike at turn one towards the end of the second qualifying session, crashing and finishing in third. Dani Pedrosa took pole from Jorge Lorenzo.

4. But his perfect points tally continues

However, Marquez went on to take his seventh victory of the 2014 season on Sunday, but only just. He dropped to fourth behind Valentino Rossi at the start and gradually made his way up to second place. He then battled closely with Rossi before taking the lead with six laps to go.

Pedrosa also found his way through and the three riders battled closely in the final stages, with the two Hondas even making contact at one stage. Marquez just managed to cling on to the lead to win by just half a second from Rossi. Pedrosa fell to third following the battle with his team-mate.

It was his maiden victory at the track, meaning there are now four on the series’ schedule that he has yet to win. Kevin Harvick was second and Brad Keselowski took third at his home circuit.

The Nascar Camping World Truck Series was also in action. Tempers flared between the team crews of Erik Jones and German Quiroga at Gateway Motorsports Park in Illinois, after Jones was punted into the wall by Quiroga. However, no punches were thrown, unlike these disagreements from the world of motorsport.
