10 Things You Might Have Missed From Last Weekend’s Motorsport Action

In another busy weekend of motorsport - which included FIA WEC, the Macau Grand Prix and Nascar - here are 10 things for you to catch up on:

1. Toyota claims another WEC victory

The FIA World Endurance Championship was in action at the Sakhir International Circuit in Bahrain last weekend for the penultimate round of the 2014 season. The No.7 Toyota of Alexander Wurz, Stephane Sarrazin and Mike Conway took a controlling first victory of the year, with the two Porsche LMP1 cars coming home second and third. The results ensured the manufacturers’ championship will go down to the final round in Brazil, with Toyota 40 points clear of Audi with 44 points up for grabs.

The No.13 Rebellion Racing car took the LMP1-L class win, with the No.47 KCMG machine triumphing in LMP2. The No.51 AF Corse Ferrari was victorious in GTE-Pro and the No.95 Aston Martin Racing car winning in GTE-Am.

2. Davidson and Buemi take the WEC title

Despite finishing down in a lowly 10th place, after losing time due to an alternator failure, Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi – drivers of the No.8 Toyota - wrapped up the FIA WEC drivers’ title with one race remaining.

Meanwhile in GTE-Pro, No.51 AF Corse Ferrari drivers Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Vilander secured their class title, while Kristian Poulsen and David Heinemeier-Hansson took the GTE-Am championship after winning for Aston Martin Racing.

The prestigious Macau Grand Prix F3 race took place last weekend, with Swedish racer Felix Rosenqvist dominating the event. A first lap pile-up at the San Francisco corner, which saw one driver’s car launched on top of the tyre barrier, caused a restart and took out several big names.

Rosenqvist managed to take the win from Lucas Auer and Nick Cassidy. Formula Renault 3.5 driver Roberto Merhi was fourth, with Nicolas Latifi and GP2 racer Stefano Coletti fifth and sixth. 2015 Toro Rosso F1 driver Max Verstappen finished seventh after crashing out in the qualifying race and starting from the back of the grid. The FIA World Touring Car Championship was also in action last weekend, with the 2014 season coming to a dramatic close with the Macau Grand Prix. José María López took the race one win – his 10th of the year, breaking the record for the most victories in a season – with Norbert Michelisz and Gabriele Tarquini completing the podium.

Rob Huff secured his seventh Macau win with first place for Lada in the 2014 finale, after a late problem for early leader Tiago Montiero. Yvan Muller and Hugo Valente rounded out the top three.

The third race of the Plus Fitness Phillip Island 400 weekend saw Garth Tander lead into the final corner on the last lap. However, his car dramatically ran out of fuel on the run to the finish line, gifting the win to McLaughlin.
