Pontiac Aztek, despite having a starring role in Breaking Bad, the Aztek is widely known for making people sick upon sight of the car. Bringing it back to Breaking Bad, the designer was probably on some sort of drug while designing this since not a sane human being would ever think of making something so ugly.

Cadillac Cimarron, just look at it, dull, slow, and built by people who didn’t care or didn’t know what they were doing. This was unfortunately branded as a Cadillac, the home to American luxury and style, represented by this turd looking car.

Ford Pinto, this “hatchback” was so ugly that it made you want to set yourself on fire. Conveniently, the Pinto did just that thanks to its rear mounted gasoline tank which was the cause of the fiery deaths of many of its customers.

Saturn Ion, although having a peppy performance version, the normal Ion was pathetic on all levels, the interior, the design, and the engine, were all apart of the unsettling vibe you get while looking at one.

Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Diesel, the idea of diesel taking over the automotive industry was very possible in Europe, but this being an example, it was not the direction for the United States. The 4.9l V8 Diesel in this car produced an atrocious 90 horsepower.

AMC Gremlin, love it or hate it, either way its a horrid car with an extremely thirsty V8 or a straight 6 from ancient times. The Gremlin is definitely ugly, but it has an odd ambience to it that doesn’t make me hate the car, kind of feeling sorry for it.

The thing is about thee Aztec is that its not necessarily ugly, rather just manufactured at the wrong time. Back in the early 2000s I dont think anyone ever heard of a cuv or compact SUV. If the Aztec had updated design cues and brought out now, would not be as hated. Now in didn’t say completely well loved, but there would be less hate towads it.

By then, the early Rav4 was out in force, and it was much more of a small SUV. Heck, it’s regarded as the first crossover vehicle, unless you include the AMC Eagle wagon in the 80’s. At the same time as the Aztec, you also had the CR-V, 2nd gen Rav4, and Suzuki Vittara. Which one you prefer is your choice, but there were others on the market, mostly from Japan.

Of course, then the small SUV’s grew to be full-sized, and now the originals are sought after by people who want to have an actually small SUV, and the newest gen of Rav4 has tried to return to its roots, becoming more off-roady and smaller than the 3rd gen.

I agree. I’m actually kind of fond of the Aztek. Especially after the face-lift.

The really unfortunate part of the Aztek was GM’s insistence on using the 3.4 V6 instead of the superior in every way 3.8 V6.

It’s not an American car, it’s a Fiat that is parading around in disguise. And for that, FCA-era Jeep has my eternal hatred now, especially with how they keep playing to their WWII heritage, which they can’t even claim as their own. (That goes to Ford, Bantam, and Willis, the later of which then went to Hudson, then to AMC, then to Jeep)

Honestly think this list needs the entire New GM lineup.. while the cars listed here at the time might have been garbage, they are easy to work on, easy to fix, and something a home mechanic can completely overhaul.. the new American cars are just as terrible, but you can’t work on them because of all the poorly developed maintenance location, and horrible electronics.. they are complete crap.. (yes Vote me down and say nothing.. because that is just what is wrong with people.. giant VaG scrapers)

I… I don’t usuallysay this but LS swap the Gremlin and drop a coyote (Or a big block Ford engine like the 6.2 from the F-350) on the Mustang II.

There’s literally no reason to do that. You can pick up an AMC 401 or AMC 390 (no relation to the ford block) crate engine for about the same amount of money and have the same amount of performance, while staying within the brand.

My had a pinto, but he swapped a V8 in it. And no it wasnt an LS enginge. It was the engine from a 302. Yea, people didn’t expect it to sound that loud. He even drag-raced it too.

That is my biggest problem with the list, it seems to be 80% based off of the author’s opinion on looks. The post should be retitled to “The 10 worst looking American Cars”, because a lot of these cars had redeeming qualities. For example: The Aztek- as much fun as it is to make fun its looks, it really is an extremely usable vehicle, it just got a bad wrapper stuck around the good part. Not many people bother looking past the exterior.
