This 1150bhp Challenger Hellcat Still Can’t Beat A McLaren 720S

Despite a 440bhp advantage on paper over the standard, but insanely quick British supercar, this massively upgraded Challenger Hellcat still isn’t quite fast enough…

We all know that if you tune a slower car you can make it faster than cars that originally had the upper hand. It’s not rocket science; just plain, old, ordinary physics and we love it.

These tuning exercises often throw up surprising comparisons. This Challenger Hellcat owner, for instance, has uprated his car’s V8 with a much bigger supercharger and a whole suite of power-boosting extras for an output of 1150bhp… and yet it still can’t outpace a standard McLaren 720S in a 45-160mph drag.

It’s not that the Hellcat is slow, by any means. It’s just that the 720S is ridiculous…

Well the 720S has about 2/3rds the power and about 2/3rds the weight…

720S is midship which helps acceleration, the Dodge is a brick in aerodynamics which doesn’t help acceleration, and it comes to driver factor too… Maybe the guy driving the Dodge was scared to release all 1100+ screaming bald eagles…

This is why the 720S is called a supercar. And the Challenger isn’t because it wasn’t meant to be one basically. And besides, the 720S would also humilliate the Challenger around a track… But that doesn’t mean that the one car is better than the other. Both have their ups and downs… And both are cool and unique in their own way…

And what are the chances of a +1000hp Challenger running into a 720s on the street? Chances are, the race would be a stock or barely modded hellcat or something vs a gt stang, ss Camaro, or another muscle car. Not some kind of exotic super/hyper car. So as fun as this comparison is, its barely realistic.

Me neither… A car built for drag racing that loses to a car not built for drag racing…

More like a 340 bhp advantage regarding recent discoveries of the 720s power output…

The Challenger Hellcat is as nimble as a two ton uranium brick compared to the McLaren. Plus it’s stuck in 1968.
