13-Year-Old Writes Off Lamborghini Huracan In Joyride Crash

Any impressionable young car lover would likely jump at the opportunity to drive a Lamborghini, but there’s a reason most countries don’t allow people to get a driving licence until they’re well into their late teens.

A 13-year-old in Vancouver, Canada found that out the hard way this week after getting access to the keys of a Lamborghini Huracan and promptly writing the V10-powered supercar off in a single-car crash.

The teen’s relation to the car’s owner is unclear, but they were allegedly able to get access to the keys by posing as a middleman in the vehicle’s planned sale. The Lambo’s owner was apparently unaware that the person they were handing the keys to was just 13.

The unnamed teenager collected a friend and took the Huracan for a drive on a cold and rainy night, promptly losing control and stuffing it into a ditch alongside the Trans-Canada Highway.

The pair were unharmed in the crash, but it caused “significant property damage” according to Sergeant Chris Bigland of the West Vancouver Police. The one image of the crash scene shows the Huracan in a very sorry state, with the front end ripped off and what looks like significant damage to the rear. It also seems to have destroyed someone’s fence.

According to CTV News Vancouver, the car was in the process of being sold for around CAD$300,000 (approximately £175,000), but the damage was significant enough for it to be declared an insurance write-off. The driver and passenger fled the scene of the crash, but were located “with the co-operation of the vehicle owner.”

The driver faces a slew of charges including speeding, driving without due care, failure to remain at the scene of a collision and driving without a licence. They’ll also presumably be grounded for a long, long time.
