We get it, some people aren’t as into motorsport as others, but if you go to a race meeting there are quite a few things you really shouldn’t be caught or overheard saying...
1. “Can we go home yet”
No, this is a six/eight/24 hour race. There are still five/seven/23 more hours to go.
2. “They aren’t that fast”
3. “The cars are too loud”
4. “What kind of fuel economy do they get?”
5. “I’m bored”
The worst thing any motorsport fan could hear. HOW?!
6. “But it’s just driving around in circles?”
And? Your point is?
7. “Anyone can do that”
8. “This is not a sport. They just sit there”
9. “It’s just a car”
No. It’s a race car. There’s a BIG difference.
10. “This is so bad for the environment”
11. “I don’t get the point of this”
12. “OHH a crash, something exciting has finally happened”

still trying to explain to my friends (we are all brits) why nascar is so so so much more than just driving in a circle, there is a massive pack manipulation game that every driver plays in order to eventually win, the pit stops are fantastic and the cars are amazingly fast considering very little aero. they still go back to the answer ‘’but its only circles and in 1 direction’’….ive given up on them
I like how the answer to number 4 is, actually not that bad. F1 cars have to last the entire race without refuelling and the more an endurance car has to refill, the less time it can spend racing, so that’s an important part of designing them to gain an advantage.
