Estate versions of hot hatchbacks are a bit of a rarity. Other than the load-lugging versions of the Skoda Octavia and Ford Focus ST, there’s not really anything else out there. Until now, that is, as Seat’s scorching Leon Cupra has spawned an ‘ST’ wagon, and it packs the same 276bhp punch as its hatchback sibling.

This is a car we’ve been expecting for a while; it’s been spotted undergoing testing numerous times - in many cases wearing no disguises whatsoever. But, it’s officially here now, so it’s time to salivate over all the juicy details.

Under the skin, it’s rocking all the same oily bits as the Cupra 280 hatchback, which means you’ll get a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot with 276bhp and 258lb ft of torque. A lower power ‘265’ version is being made, but it won’t be coming to the UK.

Spec the DSG twin-clutch ‘box, and you’ll see 0-62mph arrive in 6 seconds dead (6.1s for the manual). That’s three tenths slower than the regular hatchback, owing to the extra bulk of the ST’s estate body.

Most importantly, the hatchback’s trick electronically-controlled limited-slip differential is very much present.

Prices are yet to be announced, but judging by the pricing of current ST models, expect around a £1000 premium over the regular five-door Cupra 280. It’ll go on sale in the UK this Spring.
