The current Dodge Charger Pursuit is already one of the meanest looking patrol cars in the USA, and now, FCA has made it a little more clever.

Teaming up with Californian firm InterMotive Inc, FCA has announced it’ll supply all forces with 2017 Charger Pursuits an ‘Officer Protection Package’ security device free of charge.

It plugs into the OBDII port, and is designed to “prevent an officer from being ambushed from the rear while parked,” according to Jeff Kommor, FCA’s vice president of fleet operations. To do that, it works with the parking sensors and a rear-facing camera, and will sound an alert if someone is detected behind the car.

Simultaneously, the doors will lock, the front windows roll up, and the tail lights flash. It could be quite annoying if it’s set off by accident, but it also has the potential to save officers from injury or even death when they’re vulnerable.

Might as well drive around in Humvees. Bulletproof everything. And it looks cool in tan!

The Taurus interceptor is still the most popular police sedan in the north American market, and it’s definitely not a slow car, topping out at around 265kph or so, plus handling quite tight at even 200+kph. Ford does just fine in selling cop cars, and the main reason is back seat space vs the dodge is far more spacious and that matters in normal police vehicles

This does look nice, but what if it does what its really suppose to do and not just be on the side lines and do traffic stops?
