The 2018 911 GT2 RS Has Been Spied Testing At The Nürburgring And It Sounds Savage
With the 997 GT2 RS now being a fully-fledged performance car legend, it seems Porsche is finally bringing the GT2 model back using the 991 chassis. Due to be twin-turbocharged and spitting out in the region of 650-700bhp, the flat-six GT2 RS should become the pinnacle of the Porsche range, save the 918 hypercar.
Add in a huge rear wing and a rear-wheel drive setup and the GT2 could be quite a handful in comparison to the four-wheel drive Turbo S that has a frankly tiny 572bhp. With speculations still swirling whether Weissach will bother with a manual shift in the new GT2 RS, it is fairly obvious from the footage that this test car has Porsche’s double-clutch PDK system.
Is a clutch and a gearstick really the right call when a car has around 700bhp? Comment below with your thoughts.

Me likey!👍
The wings that big so you can hold all the money you will need to pay for it.
If done right, which ,let’s face it, it’s Porsche we’re talking about, a manual could work. It was done for the carrera gt with 600hp, so an extra 50-100hp wouldn’t be too much of a difference considering tire and chassis technology improvements over the last 13 years. I think a manual wouldn’t be a bad decision form a purely technical standpoint, but nobody is buying manuals anymore so from an economical point of view it might be a very small percentage of people who tick the box for the manual so it would be more engineering for not that much sales .
But a lot of owners complain about the carrera gt clutch costs, wear and difficulty in maneuvering the car properly either without wearing the clutch to much or to stall it. Moreover the previous GT2 RS was already the pinnacle of the 911 range, probably one of the best 911 that came out of factory. I can’t even imagine how the new engine will run due to the advancements in technology since 2009 ( when the gt2 rs came out I think) but it certainly will have a lot of torque in all rpm range ( more than the carrera gt) if they use twin-scrolled turbochargers so I don’t know how much of a good choice will be to fit a manual gearbox in it. With this being sad the GT2 RS is without a doubt one of my fav cars of all time since it came out first, it is an surpassing machine and I think we’ll have to wait to see what Porsche does relatively to the gearbox/es. Sorry if I said something wrong or unacceptable, this is just an opinion but I can’t wait to see the performance of the car.
Yeah, but sadly this test mule sounds like a PDK :( Although Porsche being porsche they might think of their consumers and continue the manual gearbox trend since the last GT2RS was a manual only :)
We know that the New 991.2 gt3 is gonna be able to Buy with a manual, but not the gt3rs, because than a pdk gt3 would be faster around a track than a RS.
So maybeeeee a gt2 is gonna be avalaible with a manual, but I dont expect so in a gt2rs.
flyes away
Twin-turbo flat-six with 700hp in a STOCK porsche?
That’s literally music in my ears
I was about to watch this video, and was greeted by a Cadillac XT5 commercial lol
Don’t want a stupid SUV/Crossover, Porsche is lyfe
Music to my ears, too. Sounds like Porsche’s following their old GT2 Recipe: i.e, VERY powerful Twin-Turbo Flat-Six, HUGE Power, Manual Gearbox, huge wing. And a driver that will now smell of metal, Porsche, and Definitely….Fear.
(Flat 6 Snarl Intensifies)
I have to say that i’m a bit disappointed about the sound
That booty tho…
Sounds good but i dont think anything can beat the sound of the GT3 RS
*GT3
