The 2024 Skoda Kodiaq Is Here With A 910-Litre Boot

If you want to carry lots of people and things without spending a lot of money, the Skoda Kodiaq is normally our recommendation. That’s despite the fact it’s been getting on a bit, but now, Skoda has launched a spangly, all-new version, and it has even more space than the last one.

How does 910 litres of boot space sound to you? That’s the figure for the five-seater with all seats in place, an increase of 75 litres compared to the outgoing Kodiaq. Fold the middle bench down, and that grows to a whopping 2,105 litres, 40 litres more than before.

You don’t have to compromise too much in terms of luggage space if you need the seven-seat version, either. With the third row folded, you’ve 845 litres to play with, an increase of 80 litres, and with them up, you still have an impressive 340 litres, which is 70 litres better. Finally, with the third and second rows folded, a 2,035-litre space opens up, an improvement of 30 litres.

Trips to Ikea will be easy-peasy, and getting there should be more comfortable, too, thanks to all that space. Anyone in the third row can enjoy 920mm of headroom, 15mm up on the old Kodiaq. Despite all this, the new one is no taller or wider, and the length has grown modestly by 61mm.

There’s a new and rather smart-looking interior, that has - gasps - real climate controls. They’re smart ones, though, featuring - along with the volume control between - little 32mm screens and capable of controlling multiple functions. You also get a 10-inch infotainment screen as standard, with a 13-inch version available optionally. The digital instrument cluster comes in at 10 inches and can be joined by an optional head-up display.

There are four USB-C sockets - two in the front, two in the back - each outputting 45w, which means they can power a laptop, or fast-charge a smartphone. There’s another 15w USB-C by the mirror, handy for juicing dash cams. 

For the first time, the Kodiaq has a plug-in hybrid powertrain, bringing together a 1.5-litre engine, an electric motor and a sizeable 25.7kWh battery for a combined 201bhp and an electric-only range in excess of 62 miles. The boot space of this one takes a bit of a hit, dropping to 745 litres.

In terms of pure combustion, there are two inline-four petrol units - a 148bhp mild-hybrid 1.5-litre TSI and a 201bhp 2.0-litre TSI - plus two 2.0-litre TDI diesels, the pokier of which doles out 190bhp. The most powerful petrol and diesel options come with all-wheel drive as standard, and all powertrains are hooked up to ‘DSG’ dual-clutch automatic gearboxes - no manuals here.

The fresh Kodiaq will go on sale in February 2024 for an as-yet undisclosed price. Expect the £33,450 starting figure of the outgoing car to rise a tad.
