6 Awesome Nearly New Fords You Can Get For A Steal

1. Focus ST Mk3

There may be a refreshed Focus ST in Ford’s range, but the pre-facelifted version is very nearly as good. It’s also a bit of a steal on the used market. This ST-2 model is on sale for £16,995 with just 8600 miles on the clock. This fairly insignificant amount of usage will save you £6700 over a brand new ST-2 with no options added.

These cars pack a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which kicks out 247bhp and a whopping 270lb ft of torque. With no limited-slip diff to tame the power (the ST uses a torque-vectoring system instead), these can be quite frenetic to drive, but that’s half the fun: we ran one as a long-term test car last year and loved it.

2. Focus ST Mk2

As much as we love the new four-pot Mk3 Focus ST, the old Mk2 has an enduring appeal, much of which is down to the sweet 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine. It’s a unit borrowed from Volvo - a company that knows a thing or two when it comes to turbocharged five-pots - and in the Focus ST it’s good for 221bhp.

This 2009 example looks tidy, has 64,000 miles on the clock, and is up for £8495.

3. Focus EcoBoost 182 Titanium X

Want the practicality of a Focus but can’t quite stretch to the insurance and running costs of an ST? Check out this Titanium X version. Its 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine is good for 182bhp, which will get you from 0-62mph in a respectable 7.9 seconds. It’s up for £16,295 and comes with just over 10,000 miles on the clock. You’ll need at least £23,520 for a new Titanium X Focus with the same engine, so going nearly new represents a saving of over £7000.

4. Fiesta ST

This list wouldn’t be complete without one of our favourite current hot hatches, the Fiesta ST. Unlike the Focus ST, the current hot Fiesta is yet to be updated, so if you buy a nearly new example like this ST-2, you’ll be getting exactly the same car that sits in an official Ford showroom. In this case, it’s up for £15,695 with just over 3000 miles on the clock, a saving of £2695 over a brand new ST-2 without options added. For 179bhp of boisterous fun and a cracking chassis, that’s a bargain.

5. Fiesta Zetec S

As with the Focus ST, the Fiesta ST’s higher running costs won’t sit well with everyone’s wallets. If that’s the case for you, take a look at this Zetec S. The fizzy 1.0-litre turbo three-pot it’s running develops a useful 123bhp, and with stiffer suspension as standard, it’s a properly decent little car to drive. A new one will set you back £15,645, but this 15,000-mile example is a much more reasonable £11,299.

6. Ranger Double Cab Wildtrak

OK, so this isn’t really a fast Ford, but it’s a powerful one: the 3.2-litre TDCi engine develops 198bhp. And, as the closest thing to an F-150 a Brit can buy, the Ranger is a practical slice of the ‘Murican dream on UK shores. This particular Ranger retails at £26,445 excluding VAT (it’s a commercial vehicle, remember) brand new, but this one is up for grabs at £23,495 (ex-VAT), despite having a measly 500 miles on the clock. So, that’s a huge £2950 saving for the sake of the sort of mileage you’d clock on a trip from London to Edinburgh. Not bad.
