6 Heroic Toyota Supras We Found In The Classifieds

The Supra is a legend, and you should cut anyone who says otherwise out of your life. With a new one on the horizon, we've been getting excited among the classifieds

This week you might have seen new spy shots of the reborn Supra in the news. That got us all nostalgic, especially for the classic A80 shape. It was an awesome car; easy to tune with stacks upon stacks of available mods. We’ve had a look around the classifieds and come up with some cast-iron examples of why we loved it then and still love it now.

Let’s start at the bottom end. This one is in a bit of a state but it’s cheap – and cheap manual Supras are getting hard to come by these days. It could be a perfect project car. Buy it cheap, modify it properly and you’ll find it hard to lose money in the long run. Just look at what great condition manual turbo models are going for and, much like us, you’ll start some man-maths to work out all the reasons you should buy it and get building. Don’t see the dodgy paint or the awful wheels. See the potential

Here’s a lovely one. Twin-turbo, manual, white and gold (or black and blue?) and just 34,000 miles, claims the seller. We’re drooling a bit. The colours are a classic combination and the upgrades have been done well. It sits on 18-inch gold and polished split Rays Volk rims with no rust underneath the awesome – and expensive – Tein coilovers. Apart from a hilariously out-of-place modern stereo unit it sounds like this one still has standard running gear. There are no engine bay pics, but you’d think they’d list power mods.

At the, err, less standard end of things is this creation. The gold paint we’re not sure about, but this is a prime example of what’s possible with the Supra. A huge list of modifications spans the body kit, carbon rear diffuser, aftermarket turbo kit and myriad upgraded ancillaries, front strut brace, bigger discs wrapped by Brembo calipers, a front suspension lift for speed bumps and lots more. Oh, and did we mention it has 650bhp with only 42,000 miles covered?

They don’t get any more standard than this. Sadly, as you’ve probably already guessed, it’s an automatic. But it’s still blessed with the twin-turbo 2JZ with a lovely leather interior, the big rear wing and for anyone looking to build their own unique Supra without being bothered about shifting cogs themselves, this is manna from heaven. It even still has the original CD player and cassette deck. Tempting, but it’s double the price of the tatty manual car above. Worth it or not?

This is my personal favourite Supra for sale anywhere right now, rear wing excluded. A hefty price tag brings with it an immaculate red paint job, stunning dark gold Rays TRD Sport alloys, upgraded everything and 600bhp to play with. This is what the Supra was meant to be: jaw-dropping coupé looks, beautifully looked after and upgraded with taste. For my money I’d replace the rear spoiler with the standard item – or something similar. Too much rear end rice for me, but otherwise this one is about perfect.

Leaving the most powerful until last, the sellers of this very pretty blue one claim that a dyno test on the car in 2007, when it was imported, shows it running 755bhp at the flywheel at 1.5 bar. It has since been recorded at 640bhp at the wheels. Helping it on its way are HKS pistons, cams, valves and springs, plus a matching head gasket and more. The builder chose a lower, sleeker boot treatment that plenty of people adore, and just check out the upholstery on those factory-standard Recaros. There’s apparently a full folder of receipts, too. Very nice.

Which is your favourite, or do you know of any better ones? Tell us in the comments.
