6 Reasons Why A 1.2 VW Polo Is Better Than A Honda S2000

Our colleague Gabor just sold his beloved Honda S2000 and replaced it with a VW Polo. We thought he was mad, but upon reflection, we've worked out why he took this decision

1. Weight reduction, bro

The Honda S2000 is a light car, tipping the scales at just 1260kg. However, the 1.2-litre Polo weighs 1100kg. Sure, the Polo is a little down on power with 64bhp compared to the S2000’s 240, but thanks to the 160kg weight saving, it’s able to charge from 0-62mph in 14.9 seconds.

2. More space for friends

With five seats at his disposal rather than the S2000’s pair, Gabor can now give three more mates a ride than he was able to previously. The only problem is, he doesn’t have friends any more. Because he sold his S2000 for a Polo.

3. A Polo is faster than an S2000

With the aforementioned power deficit, an S2000 is far quicker than a Polo, right? Not necessarily. If a Polo is travelling at 70mph, it will overtake an S2000 driving at 65. Mind = BLOWN.

4. It has an extra map reading light

Handy, no?

5. It's a purer driver's car

Even a pared-back sports car like the S2000 has a few creature comforts and electric gizmos to play with. A base-spec 1.2-litre Polo? Other than the handy map reading light, there’s very little to distract you from the task of driving. It’s just you, a steering wheel and 64 rampant horses being sent to the front boots.

This particular Polo has three doors. It has a three-cylinder engine. It has triangles in the VW logo. In third gear it can do 60mph; 60 ÷ 10 ÷ 2 = three.

Coincidence? I think not.
