7 Cars The New Mercedes-AMG A45 S Can Match To 62mph

The 3.9-second 0-62mph time attributed to the new AMG mega hatch seems particularly bonkers with some context!
7 Cars The New Mercedes-AMG A45 S Can Match To 62mph

The Mercedes-AMG A45 S is one of those cars whose 0-62mph time is impossible to ignore. 3.9 seconds? For a hot hatchback? The word ‘bonkers’ doesn’t even begin to cover it.

It’s all thanks to a new 415bhp turbocharged inline-four ‘M139’ engine, which revs to 7200rpm and is intended to feel naturally-aspirated. Paired with an all-wheel drive system - which has a ‘drift mode’ - it makes the AMG megahatch supremely quick off the line.

As per usual, this latest rather silly 0-62mph time is something we feel needs putting in context. With that in mind, here’s a selection of cars that - unbelievably - the new A45 S can match while covering the benchmark sprint.

Acceleration figures aren’t, of course, what defines a car - we’re just impressed by the mad pace of this little thing. Are you?

Might have been more apt to include more recent actually fast cars such as the Gallardo.

Pretty sure a GT3 will run rings around a Gallardo

The only Gallardo models that have a better 0-60 than the A45S are the Superleggera and the Super Trofeo, the Performante has the same 0-60.

Is this only available in the U.K? Or is it also in America?

I think the U.S only gets the CLA 45 (basically the same car)

I think that’s too fast for a hatchback.

To put it into even more context, ten years ago Gallardo did 0-60 in 4.5s and that was considered as very fast back then.

Exactly, I think that is one of the best cars to compare it to, a crazy fast lambo, the best money could buy, now outclassed by a hot Hatch. Crazy!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I get the feeling that most of the cars listed here will still be doing 3.9s after another 20 years, while today’s super hot hatches will fall apart in 5 years. Poor college kids won’t be able to buy a 10 year old golf gti and have fun with it for another few years
