7 Favourite Overtakes (from my first season in cars)

Last year was my first season of car racing. The season only lasts about six months and there was a lot to learn! I only had 3 test-days before my first race weekend to learn to drive the car so after that I had to learn pretty much everything within the race weekends themselves.

Last year was my first season of car racing. The season only lasts about six months and there was a lot to learn! I only had 3 test-days before my first race weekend to learn to drive the car so after that I had to learn pretty much everything within the race weekends themselves. I was only 16 and had to somehow be competitive among adults who had years of experience driving cars and racing them. Some drivers had been racing in one way or another for 16 years! As many years as I had been alive!

In my first season, it was all about learning so nobody expected any race wins from me (although getting fastest-lap in the VAG Trophy showed that I was close at the end of the season). Apart from that race where I got fastest lap, my best moments were overtaking. Here are some of the highlights…

That’s all for now. I hope you enjoyed them. For more driving and other video highlights, subscribe to my YouTube channel here: youtube.com/DKMRacingTV.

Question, does your car have an auto rev match on the down shifts? I saw on the first video you downshifted without blipping the throttle

No auto rev match. I pretty much just use timing for the downshifts. I did spend some time learning to heel-and-toe (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3meXQf4qHc) but my instructors said there wasn’t anything to be gained in heel-and-toe on this particular set up and for me to focus on everything else in my driving. It is something I might experiment with this year though, just to see.

Outmost respect man. You are living the dream, and that dream probably did not come easy.

Ah nvm found a link to your website and the videos work there. Nice moves 👍 I bet it’s quite nerve racking the first few times you try out braking people or going round the outside as one wrong move could wreck both of your cars.

I had that problem when I was looking via my phone earlier. Weird. I reloaded it and it was slow but fine after that. Glad you saw it in the end :-)

Any advice on obtaining sponsorship? Funding is a big issue for me

Funding is a huge issue for me too. The main thing is get your name out there as much as you can. If you aren’t racing, be somewhere motorsport related or car related. Film it. Vlog it. Share it on social media and build your brand. I’m still at the beginning of my story but I know I have made it a lot further than a lot of people so it can be done. The main thing is never give up!
