7 Moments That Made The British GP The Best F1 Race Of The Season

Today the classic Silverstone track hosted yet another exciting F1 race. There were spins, incidents, overtakes, rain showers and a British winner on home soil. Lewis Hamilton took his third British Grand Prix victory, with Nico Rosberg second and Sebastian Vettel third. Here are the most memorable moments:

Hamilton and Rosberg lined up on the front row, but Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas had lightning starts from third and fourth to storm into the leading two positions. Hamilton and Rosberg were left like:

Going three wide into Turn 3 on lap one was never going to end well. Romain Grosjean was pushed wide by Daniel Ricciardo, collecting his team-mate Pastor Maldonado – a nightmare for Lotus. Fernando Alonso spun in avoidance and, ironically, collided with the second McLaren of Jenson Button, who (like Grosjean and Maldonado) retired.

It was pretty cool to see Williams leading the race, and quite convincingly too. A poor restart saw Hamilton challenge Massa but he ran wide, gifting Bottas second. The top four drivers were separated by around three seconds for most of the first stint – that’s what we like to see!

Losing the rear of your car at the super-quick Turn 2 must be pretty scary. That’s exactly what happened to Max Verstappen just after the race restart, fortunately the gravel trap did a good job of slowing him down.

Massa and Rosberg took their battle to the pit lane and the two emerged side-by-side – it couldn’t get much closer. Rosberg eventually had to yield, but both lost out to Hamilton after his earlier stop.

6. The rain is coming

It wouldn’t be the British Grand Prix without some rain, and it definitely spiced things up. The first shower was fairly light and only affected the second sector, meaning we got to see drivers sliding around on dry tyres. However, the second was heavier and promoted the field to pit – Hamilton and Vettel got the timing spot on, with the former extending his lead and the latter jumping to third.

7. Hammer time

Hamilton extended his lead in the final laps to score a stunning third British Grand Prix victory. The packed crowds went wild, and it was an emotional lap back to the pits. Rosberg was second, Vettel third and the Williams duo of Massa and Bottas fell to fourth and fifth in the wet conditions.
