This 700bhp Subaru WRX Has A 9000rpm Skyline GT-R Drivetrain

Check out this awesome creation based on a 2012 “ugl-eye” Subaru Impreza WRX. The original flat-four engine and permanent all-wheel drive system has been dumped in favour of the oily bits from an R34 Skyline GT-R and then tuned. Hard.

A beautifully presented RB26DETT has been mounted as far back as possible in a brand new subframe and behind the front axle. Stroked to 2.8 litres and fitted with new injectors, stronger internals and a big ol’ turbo, the famously tunable Nissan engine now runs on E85 racing fuel and makes around 700bhp at all four wheels – and spins to 9000rpm.

But right now the output is restricted by the turbo: big though it is, it’s not big enough for this build, and while horsepower stays constant above 6000rpm or so, it actually loses boost at those revs. With a larger turbo the numbers will take another giant leap skywards.

The Skyline drivetrain maintains four-wheel drive but can be switched to rear-drive for maximum drifty nonsense. You first have to overcome the insane grip provided by 315-section tyres, though, mounted on 12-inch-wide (305mm) rims that shove the rubber way out beyond the outrageously flared bodywork.
