1. Lap record smashed

Jorge Lorenzo set a new lap record at the Brno circuit in MotoGP qualifying, putting in a stunning 1:54.989 to secure pole position. It was the fastest ever tour of the track by a motorcycle, and the first under the 1:55 mark.

When you are a MotoGP rider, you don’t let other people drive you back to the pits, as Pol Espargaro demonstrated over the Czech Grand Prix weekend.

Lorenzo dominated the Czech GP, leading every single lap to record his fifth win of the 2015 season, with Marquez and Valentino Rossi completing the podium. The Spaniard is now level on points with Rossi in the drivers’ championship, with 211.

The Nascar Sprint Cup was at the Michigan International Speedway last weekend. Matt Kenseth controlled the Pure Michigan 400 to score his second win in three races, leading 146 of the 200 laps. Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr were second and third.

Jimmie Johnson had a tough Nascar Sprint Cup race in Michigan after suffering a puncture, overshooting his pit lane and spinning.

The Nascar Xfinity series was at Mid-Ohio last weekend, with Regan Smith taking victory after a last-corner, final lap overtake on Alex Tagliani. Seven laps earlier, Kenny Habul collided with Boris Said and caused a multi-car pile-up.

Jon Wes Townley hit Matt Crafton during the Nascar Camping World Truck series, but both managed to save their sliding cars in spectacular style. Nice work!

8. Rallycross in Washington DC

After taking the Formula E title in June, Nelson Piquet Jr’s successful 2015 continued with his maiden win in the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship. Having lost out to Patrik Sandell last year in Washington DC, he turned the tables to take victory from Sandell and Ken Block.
