A beautifully-mysterious trailer for the new Dirt 4 game has been released, alongside the first juicy details about the rally game. We’ll get to hear a lot more about it over the coming months, but this is what we’ve found out at the moment:

1. It’s coming this summer

8 Things We Now Know About Dirt 4

One of the first major details we know about Dirt 4 is the month it’s coming out. We don’t have the exact date, but it’s been revealed the game is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC in June 2017. So, not long to wait until we can get our hands on the newest Dirt release!

2. A big wait

8 Things We Now Know About Dirt 4

Sure, Dirt Showdown and (especially) Dirt Rally were pretty good games and brought players their rallying fix, but we haven’t had a new named game in the series since Dirt 3 in 2011. It’s been a fairly substantial waiting time, but now Dirt 4 is coming and promises to “take the passion and authenticity of off-road racing to the next level”. Sounds good to us.

3. Your Stage

8 Things We Now Know About Dirt 4

This sounds like a really cool new feature for the Dirt franchise, which basically generates a new rally route and gives you a unique stage to drive on. Apparently, there are over a billion possible stages, with five different locations to choose from and options related to length, complexity and time of day. The tracks can be shared with friends online too. It certainly sounds like a good way of keeping the game fresh for regular players.

4. Real-life driver feedback

Dirt 4 is clearly pretty proud of the pro drivers it has had helping to develop the game, and with good reason. With WRC driver Kris Meeke and rallying/rallycross legend Petter Solberg helping fine-tune the handling and feel of the cars, it should hopefully be a pretty fun and challenging game to play.

5. Truck and buggy racing

There’ll be a lot more to do than just drive rally cars in Dirt 4, with the return of truck and buggy racing in Landrush. It should add another enjoyable and fast-paced element to the game and with that comes…

More locations

So, there are five different rally stage locations (Australia, Spain, Michigan, Sweden and Wales), but the return of truck and buggy racing means there are also more courses and events to try out, with places like Nevada, California, and Baja in Mexico joining the fun.

6. Rallycross license

Alongside those rally disciplines, Dirt 4 also has the official license of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, which is a pretty big deal – especially as this sector of motorsport continues to grow in popularity. It’ll feature official World RX locations like Lohéac Bretagne, Hell, Holjes and Lydden Hill.

7. Plenty of game modes

There seems to be quite a few game modes to choose from. Alongside the career mode, where you work your way through the rallying disciplines, there’s also improved multiplayer and online modes, free-play through Joyride, the World RX mode and Landrush for the smaller buggies, trucks and Crosskarts. Plus, of course, Your Stage.

8. Lots of cars

The game will include over 50 cars, from modern machinery like the Ford Fiesta R5 to more classic cars, such as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI and Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2.

Roll on June…

No Monte Carlo? No Germany? No Greece? I’ve got to say, those were my favourite three rallies in the most recent game. It’s a a real shame that those have been cut.

As someone from Michigan, I can testify how amazing our back roads are for rallying, we have 3 rally America events here a year, and I hope we have both snow and dirt to choose from in those stages
