This 820hp 1965 Mustang Is Restomodding Done Right

Only in America would you find a tuning shop called 'Mo' Muscle'. Try saying it with a brash Stateside accent: Mo' Muscle. As in: more muscle. Of course, these guys are based in Texas, and here's their latest project: a restomod 1965 Ford Mustang convertible with NASCAR racer levels of power.

Under the bonnet of this fairly unassuming-looking 'Stang is the 5.4-litre supercharged V8 from a 2007 Shelby GT500 Mustang. In original trim, the engine would have developed a claimed 500bhp at 6000rpm and 480lb ft at 4500rpm, and shifted a big ol' '07 Shelby to 60mph in about 4.5sec, covering a quarter-mile in 12.7sec at 116mph. It's fair to say the Mo' Muscle version would blow its more modern counterpart into the weeds.

Thanks to a new 'Mammoth' supercharger and a handbuilt steel exhaust system, the Mo' Muscle 5.4-litre V8 now develops a claimed 820bhp - around 170bhp more than a modern GT500. Though no official performance figures have been released, it's obviously well capable of roasting those sticky rear tyres.

Ironically, the Mo Muscle Mustang isn't just, well, more muscle. There's been a lot of chassis mods too to cope with all that power, including new aluminium front and rear subframes, custom independent rear suspension with lower, stiffer shocks all round, and Willwood four-piston disc brakes at all four corners. Inside, there's a bespoke fibreglass dashboard with vintage gauges colour-coded to the custom paintwork.

Had this Mustang featured in Bullitt, the car chase would have lasted about five seconds.
