9 Rendered Rides We Wish Existed As Real-Life Production Cars

1. Mazda 6 MPS

Mazda no longer makes any quick ‘MPS’ versions of its cars, and that’s a shame. Demand would be limited, but a hot version of the handsome new 6 would be a brilliant left-field sports saloon.

2. Skoda Fabia vRS

When we drove the new Skoda Fabia a few months ago, we thought it handled rather nicely. Unfortunately, there won’t be a quick ‘vRS’ version to make the most of the chassis, as Skoda reckons the demand is simply too low to make it worthwhile.

3. Subaru WRX wagon

Both the first and second-generation Subaru WRXs were available in a ‘wagon’ body style, but since then, we’ve had no such luck. A pity.

4. Subaru WRX STI cabriolet

WRX wagon a little too mainstream for you? How about a convertible WRX STI? Such a thing would be one of the most niche-tastic cars ever built, and we can’t think why Subaru would ever make it, but it has a certain quirky appeal. When we recently put it to a vote, 64 per cent of you loved the idea.

5. Peugeot 108 GTI

Peugeot has been having something of a renaissance lately when it comes to quick cars, with the 208 GTI and RCZ R impressing us, plus the prospect of a hot 308 R eventually joining the ranks. However, there are no plans for a sporty version of the 108. Boo.

6. VW Polo R

Despite previously announcing its intentions to produce more ‘R’ models, VW has since ruled out the prospect of an R’d up Polo.

7. BMW M3 Touring

The M3 is available as a saloon only, because BMW believes that there just isn’t enough demand to justify a ‘Touring’ estate version. This is ironic, as Audi makes its M3-rivalling RS4 only as an estate.

8. Ford Mustang pickup

Hot utes are very much an Australian thing, but what if the US got in on the act? American utes have been made in the past - just look at the Chevrolet El Camino and Ford Ranchero - and a modern equivalent would be rather brilliant. The blue-collar muscle car that is the Ford Mustang would make a perfect starting point for a car-based pickup. Will it ever happen, though? Unlikely.

9. Renault Megane RS Sport Tourer

If you want an estate version of a hot hatchback, you’re currently limited to the Ford Focus ST and Skoda Octavia vRS. With that in mind, it’s a shame Renault’s ‘Sport Tourer’ Megane estate hasn’t been given the scorching ‘RS’ treatment.

The RS Megane hatch is one of the sharpest hot hatches out there, and adding the extra weight of an estate body would be at odds with that, but we’d welcome a quick load-lugger like this with open arms.
