9 Things That Definitely Won't Happen In F1 2016

It is easy to predict what might happen during the F1 2016 season, but what about the things that definitely won’t?

1. Mercedes at the back

Can you imagine that? Mercedes going from hero to zero, first to last within the space of just a few months. Now that would be a turn up for the books. We doubt Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg would be too happy about it though.

2. Smiley, chatty Iceman

9 Things That Definitely Won't Happen In F1 2016

Kimi Raikkonen is renowned for his cool, icy demeanour and chilled personality. It is the reason why he is undoubtedly one of F1’s most popular drivers. But sometimes we just want to see him smile and hear an actual, detailed answer to a question. You never know.

3. Quiet year for Verstappen

9 Things That Definitely Won't Happen In F1 2016

Max Verstappen was one of the stars of 2015. In his rookie season, he really shook things up, with some great, ballsy overtakes and battles. A quiet, dull and unexciting second year in the sport seems almost impossible for the 18-year-old.

4. A crash-free season for Maldonado (if he's still around)?

Ha. That’s pretty much impossible, right? While Pastor Maldonado may be a quick driver, he just can’t seem to shake off the inconsistent, error-prone reputation. With a tough year ahead for Renault we don’t expect him to suddenly become a calm-headed racer anytime soon, that’s if he isn’t replaced by Kevin Magnussen.

5. Haas F1 victory

9 Things That Definitely Won't Happen In F1 2016

Now that would be an amazing result for a team in its debut season. The Haas F1 outfit will join the grid in 2016 with Ferrari engines and technical assistance. It sounds like a pretty decent set-up for the new American squad and a win would certainly be a fairytale start!

6. Hamilton and Button collaborate

9 Things That Definitely Won't Happen In F1 2016

We know three-time champion Hamilton is looking to release a music album in 2016. He even played a snippet of two songs during a recent interview. And we also know how ‘good’ Jenson Button sounded during his rendition of “We Are The Champions” in 2009. So a collaboration seems like the natural next step. If that happens, God help us all.

7. Inoue to make shock return

9 Things That Definitely Won't Happen In F1 2016

Taki Inoue is best known for being hit by a recovery vehicle during the 1995 Hungarian Grand Prix. But could a reappearance in F1 change his fortunes around? Imagine if he made a surprise return to the grid, replacing Maldonado mid-season. I’m not sure which driver is worse. Actually scratch that, it’s definitely Inoue.

8. Action-packed practice

9 Things That Definitely Won't Happen In F1 2016

I think we would all love to see drivers out on track constantly in practice, making full use of the time available to them. But unless changes come into effect - like cutting down sessions or bringing in regulations forcing drivers to run - it will never happen. So we must prepare for more slow-motion replays, garage shots and clips of fans realising they are on camera just as it pans away.

9. Success for McLaren Honda

After such a disastrous start, McLaren and Honda’s journey to success will clearly be a long one. It may never produce race wins and seeing Button or Fernando Alonso back on the top step of the podium in 2016 is definitely a long shot, even though it would be a great turnaround.

Success for McLaren doesn’t have to be a podium this year, more like consistency in points and fighting midfield would be a success, but then again this is McLaren we’re talking about they have the resources to pull a Ferrari-style comeback

I’m hoping Honda and McLaren do have a decent year, it would be amazing to score a podium. I agree they need to get points consistently first

well Mclaren already had a pretty decent chassis last season, it’s just that engine letting them down

I think McLaren Honda will score 1 or 2 podiums. Look how close they came in Hungary.

WHY do people want practise sessions to be actionfull? They are not meant for that. They are meant for exactly waht it says, practise and setting up the car perfectly. That obviously means there’s going to be set-up work needed to be done, so they can’t be out on track all the time. But if they success in practise, they have better chances of bringing more excitment on qualies and race. And that’s what we are really wanting to see. So if someone thinks practise is boring, don’t watch it. Tomorrow you can already be full of excitment on who gets the pole. Next day THE RACE!

I don’t understand how people love turbos on car but when it comes to f1 they don’t want it.
And hating the sound because it’s low ? Really ? You better watch a GP live and tell me how your ears feel.
And more fun ? So we tell Mercedes stop doing an amazing car we want to see a competition ?
The only thing I wish to see is to manage the tyre degradation caused by the front car’s exhaust so we can see drivers getting closer to each others and not keeping a distance to save their tyres.

I think you’re mixing some things up here.
The biggest problem isn’t the exhaust and the tire degradation.

It’s about the “dirty” turbulent air that comes off the car in front.
Because of the turbulence and the slipstream, the following car doesn’t get as much air flowing over the front wing as the car in front.
Less air over the front wing means less downforce.
Less downforce means less pressure on the front tires and less grip.

This would cause the following car to understeer in corners which would make it slower than the car in front, making an overtake on anything but a straight impossible.

Honestly I’ve been to several grand prix in the last 2 years, and your ears will not hurt when the F1 cars come by. They will hurt during GP3 and GP2, but not during F1.

Also, sound is part of the sensation. The onboards looked much faster when there was a screaming v8 in the back.

I think most of these are pretty obvious… And shows even more that F1 needs to be revamped

Honda didn’t win a race for three years when Senna came along. Back then they didn’t show up and win so I don’t understand why people expected them to when they never did in the past.
