This 900hp Evo VI Is A Ferocious 8-Second Car
Last week's Readers Rides was a special Mitsubishi Evo that you guys loved, so when we saw this brutal 876hp Evo we just had to share it with you.
When Ross Walker bought himself an Evo VI back in 2005, he had every intention of leaving it standard. Just something to have a little fun in. Eight years later, and he is the proud owner of one of the fastest Evos in Britain.
By 2008 Ross had become something of an Evo expert. He quit his job as a sales manager and formed Ross Sport, a company that specialised in Evo parts. Using his car as a test bed, he quickly established a name for himself. Competing in a 30mph-130mph event in 2009, he managed a time of 6.92 seconds. Last year he smashed his own records with an astonishing time of 4.91 seconds. Perspective? A stock R35 GTR will do it in about 13 seconds.
Remarkably the engine still displaces 2.0 litres, but that's about all that remains the same. The AP Tuning-prepped 4G63 long-rod has been built with alloy rods, Wiseco 1400HD pistons and a lightweight crank, and is mated to a CNC/Ross Sport big valve head, with Jun 272 cams and inlet manifold.
To get that neck-breaking acceleration Ross fitted a massive Ross Sport GT4205 turbo, which is perched atop a Zircotec-coated exhaust manifold. And a screamer pipe that'll make your ears bleed. Not enough? There's a NOS system that's good for a 200hp hit when required.
The driveline is where big-power Evos often come unstuck, so Ross has worked over every inch to ensure nothing goes wrong. Power is sent from the six-speed sequential gearbox through a fully treated non-ACD transfer box to a Wavetrac front diff, and down the carbon prop to a rear diff with uprated Cusco internals. Drive to the wheels comes through uprated driveshafts.
The interior has been stripped to almost nothing, with a customised seating position, steering column and pedal setup providing the perfect driving position.
And if you were in any doubt about just what all that equates to in terms of real-life performance, just watch this video...
