Accidentally Stolen Car Gets Returned With Apology Note And Petrol Money
It’s not often that when your car is stolen it turns up back on your drive the next day, complete with an apology note and petrol money.
But that’s what happened to one Subaru owner in Oregon, whose old red Impreza was initially taken from her driveway on Tuesday evening. Erin Hatzi posted stills from her CCTV camera online in the hope that someone might have been able to identify the ‘thief’, only for the car to reappear on Wednesday with a handwritten note and money inside.
According to a Facebook post from Wednesday, the note explains that the woman who took the car was sent by her friend to pick up a red Impreza in the same neighbourhood that really does belong to her, but mistook Hatzi’s car for the correct one.
Shockingly, the Oregon police confirmed that some older Subaru keys are directly interchangeable, which is a big factor in how this massive misunderstanding could have gone so far in the first place.
The apology note reads: “Hello, so sorry I stole your car. I sent my friend with my key to pick up my red Subaru at 7802 SE Woodstock and she came back with your car.
“I did not see the car until this morning and I said, ‘that is not my car.’ There is some cash for gas and I more than apologize for the shock and upset this must have caused you.
“If you need to speak further, with me, I am Bernadett and my number is [blanked].
“So so sorry for this mistake.”
You’ve got to laugh, really. And then, for crying out loud, you’ve got to change the keys, door locks and ignition barrel. At least this nightmare had a happy ending.

Oregon slowly converting to become a state of Canada?
some grand theft auto incidents like some just pissed me off sometimes when they got away with it…….but this one? it was all well……peacefully when these accidental “car theives” returned the car without a scratch and wrote a huge apology……faith in humanity has restored in this one
So my 2016 Subaru forester keys will start my 1958 Subaru 360?
