Alfa's Exquisite 4C Spider Looks Almost Too Hot To Handle

Alfa Romeo has brought this 'design preview' of the 4C Spider to Geneva - and it's even prettier than the coupe

Alfa's mid-engined 4C is already a handsome brute, but this new Spider version is possibly even prettier. Making its Geneva debut today is this 'design preview,' which gives us a clear picture of what next year's production 4C Spider will be like.

The required strengthening needed due to the loss of the roof has predictably resulted in a weight increase of just 60kg. This low figure has been achieved through the use of carbonfibre in the construction of the rollover bars, spoilers and windscreen frame. The removable roof, meanwhile, is a simple canvas design.

The Spider gets a different set of wheels, and new carbonfibre clamshell headlights - which to our eyes look a damn sight better than the awkward-looking pair fitted to the coupe.

Nothing has changed performance-wise; behind the cabin you'll find the same 1750TBi turbo four-pot as found in the 4C coupe, sending power to the rear wheels via Alfa's TCT gearbox. The 240bhp TBi lump will still give a top speed of 155mph, and a 0-62mph time of 4.5 seconds.

There's no word on pricing just yet, but we're expecting the production version to cost slightly above the coupe's £45,000. Worth every penny, if you ask us.
