All-New Mazda3 In ‘Yet Another Stylish And Practical Mazda’ Shock
This is the brand new Mazda3, in both its hatchback and saloon body styles. We reckon the front end is easily the prettiest of any compact hatchback on sale today.
Designed to “enable people to make the most of their natural sense of balance,” we imagine the press release might have been directly translated from the Japanese. Because we have no idea what that actually means.
Apparently, though, the new Golf rival has been engineered so that the basic driving attributes like accelerating, turning and braking all feel “completely natural.” We hope that means they’re direct and precise, with good feedback at the wheel and seat.
More details will be released later, at which point we’ll update this story, but for now all we know is that the handsome devil will use all three of Mazda’s current internal combustion engine ranges: SkyActiv-G petrol, SkyActiv-D diesel and the intriguing new SkyActiv-X, which we’ve driven and should offer diesel fuel economy with vastly lower particulate emissions – a best of both worlds scenario for the planet.

It looks great. The proportions of the hatchback remind me a bit of the Alfa-Romeo Brera (which is a good thing), except it actually starts.
The huge C-pillars could be a bit questionable in regards of visibility, though.
My dad had a Mazda3 from the previous gen and the C-pillar was just as thick, I drove it once or twice and didn’t have any visibility issues, thanks in part to the BSM. Even without it I could see just fine
If only there was a 3 door version. 🤤
The Brera had so much potential man. Still looks like a new car today. Even the interior. Real shame it didn’t have enough power or aftermarket support
Nice, but the sedans doors look like they’ve been bashed in. Maybe it’s just the reflection?

I was hoping for the headlights to look more like those of the CX5, but I can’t argue about how it looks, it does look amazing, especially the saloon has improved massively.
It’s kinda disappointing that they ditched the multilink rear suspension in favor of a twist bar. That was one of it’s key attributes which made it such a good little thing to drive
It is pretty disappointing because the car looks great and Mazda’s are meant to be about the driving experience.
I currently have a 2015 Mazda 3S (2.5L with 190bhp and 184lb/ft) and off the bat I can tell you that it is eager to slide its rear end while cornering and on lightly wet surfaces, and gets all jumpy on bumps and potholes. Maybe going to a torsion beam ensures a uniform (left to right) suspension travel while maximizing traction and thus reducing rear slide. Still, I find this natural tendency to slide very fun and I enjoy driving the car. You can push it to the very limit and will (9.99 of 10) be very forgiving. Pushed it to about 170km/h (about 105 / 108 mph) on a 2km (1.25mi) stretch of road and never felt the car uneasy nor unbalanced.
This interests me more than the new 911
