The All-New Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Is A 456bhp Non-Ugly Eco Warrior

Why use electricity only for efficiency when you could use it for performance as well? Porsche has worked its magic on the new and very much improved hybrid express

Porsche is taking its hybrid game to the next level with a new, no longer hideous and even more electrified Panamera.

The four-wheel-drive E-Hybrid is a massive upgrade from the old Panamera S E-Hybrid, adding 46bhp and 81lb ft of muscle to give a total of 456bhp and 516lb ft. On top of that, the new battery structure can deliver up to 31 miles of electric-only driving range, which is handy for sneaking around cities relatively unnoticed. Porsche says it should usually manage 15 miles or more unless you’re hoofing the pedals.

Impressively, the motors can power the car without the 2.9-litre V6 engine’s interference up to 86mph, and the torque delivery has been remapped to give more e-ponies at lower throttle pressures.

Almost a second has been brutally chopped off the E-Hybrid’s 0-62mph time, so now it sets a pretty damn impressive 4.6-second benchmark. Top speed meanwhile is up 5mph to 172mph. And because the European NEDC emissions test is utterly useless at representing the real world, the official efficiency digits are 113mpg and 56g/km of CO2. Yeah, okay.

Inside you’ll find an array of touch-sensitive panels. There are two seven-inch screens in the dashboard and a 12.3-inch widescreen unit at the top of the centre console. So yes, you’ll need to keep a cloth in the glove box for wiping all the fingerprints off.

Prices for the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid in the UK start from £79,715, which makes it a staggering £12,000 cheaper than the diesel version. The E-Hybrid, with all its power, technology and tax advantages might just be the best Panamera you can buy.

Porsche, we used to and still do love the noise your engines make. Now, you are going down route of e power ignoring your history of the world’s favorite sports car. WHY?

Because maybe the human race is more important than an exhaust note & emission regulations are getting harder to achieve?
