All-Wheel Drive Dodge Challenger Accidentally Confirmed By US Government

Leaks are fairly common these days, and frankly they're often good for publicity as far as new cars go. But, as leaks go, the American EPA's confirmation of a four-wheel drive Challengerwas so low-key it nearly slipped under the radar

Dodge is about to release a four-wheel drive Challenger, and it sounds awesome.

The fellas at Jalopnik spotted an entry on the Environmental Protection Agency’s website, for a Dodge Challenger GT, which is confirmed on the same page as driving all four wheels.

Its a couple of miles per gallon worse on fuel than the rear-wheel drive version but the extra traction, plus the ability to plough on through winter weather, is surely going to be worth it.

The catch? As Dodge initially tests the water for consumer demand, it’s going to be V6 and automatic only. We really, really hope they stick a V8 into it, because that would be beyond amazing.

ALL wheel drive, V6, auto only! Has the auto industry in America gone mad?! I blame Trump.

While I did upvote your comment, to be fair, they simply want to be safe and gauge consumer demand before making purists of V8 RWD muscle mobiles too angry. Smart move, really.

For people who find the rear drive v8’s a little to ‘challenging’ to drive i guess..

This will do really well as a rental car.
V6, auto and AWD form the holy safety trifecta as far as rental companies are concerned.
So the AWD version will basically only be driven by tourists and mountain people.

This is always how they made them for the chargers and this is how they are going to make them for the challengers

Agreed. In reality, petrolheads want the craziness, instability, and danger of high horsepower paired with RWD. I do think an AWD system would help tame the Hellcat version especially, and make its power more usable, but that’s missing the point, isn’t it? We kinda like evaporating our tires into clouds of white smoke and being unable to drive in a straight line because the back end wants to dance. An AWD version would lose this characteristic, and that is why I am sad to see cars such as this, the m5, e63, and c63’s moving towards AWD only. What you gain in traction, you lose in passion.

having AWD doesn’t automatically make it handle better. AWD promotes more understeer, so a good driver can out-handle an AWD car with superior driving in a RWD car
