All You Need To Know About The Imposing New Merc S-Class Coupe

We've already had a good look at the new S-Class coupe courtesy of a recent leak, but now Mercedes has officially revealed the CL replacement ahead of its Geneva Motor Show debut next month.

As with the S-Class saloon, it's chock full of clever tech, notably Magic Body Control, which scans the road ahead for imperfections and prepares the suspension accordingly. The coupe will debut a further - and even cleverer - development: 'active curve tilting'.

This means the S-Class 'leans into bends much like a motorcyclist, thereby reducing the lateral acceleration acting on the vehicle's occupants' - according to one of Merc's top boffins. This essentially means you'll be able to lob the car around a good bit of road without your passengers complaining about being violently thrown about. Useful, no?

Upon the car's launch there'll be just one engine available, a 4.7-litre biturbo V8 packing 455bhp and 516lb/ft of torque. It'll be shoutier than the saloon's V8 too, with a pair of flaps in the exhaust that open or close depending on how fast you're going. Expect performance to be similar to the S500 saloon, with a 0-60mph time of just under five seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph.

The sheer size of the car means it's already pretty showy, but if it's not enough for you, there's a rather dubious option box for you to tick: headlights adorned with 47 Swarovski crystals each. Nice...
