Alpine Is Building An A110 Track Car For A One-Make Race Series

French Renault subsidiary Alpine has announced that there’s an ‘A110 Cup’ racer under development alongside the production A110, with a view to starting a new one-make racing series as soon as next year.

It won’t be road legal in order to extract as much performance as possible out of the platform. It will, however, have functional aerodynamics and a stripped-out interior, making it lighter than the road car’s already flighty 1080kg.

To us it seems reasonable to expect modifications to the intake and exhaust systems to release more power, and maybe even a light remap for the 1.8-litre turbo, which delivers 246bhp out of the crate. The A110 Cup will be built by racing experts Signatech, who will cross the Ts and dot the Is of FIA homologation standards.

The A110 Cup racing series will have around 20 entries, if all goes to plan, with a racing calendar to be confirmed in September. It’s expected that the races will act as a support series for a globe-trotting mid-level motorsport, with various touring car championships among the link-up options.

My father was the concept car chef during the Renault renewal, and I can assure you from his part that won’t happen, mostly because it’s a car associated with Renault and because product planning at Renault is relatively stupid when it comes to interesting cars
