At Paris Games Week, Sony and Polyphony Digital announced a new title in the Gran Turismo series, coming to PlayStation 4 in 2016.

Gran Turismo Sport will feature improved graphics, physics, and sound to "deliver the most realistic driving simulator to date". Few details have been revealed, with the main focus being on the new FIA online championships.

The game will include two championships, the Nations Cup where players represent their home country and the Manufacturers Cup, where gamers can drive on behalf of their favourite car brands. The winner of the championship will be awarded at the FIA prize giving ceremony.

Much more focus with Gran Turismo Sport seems to be on the online racing side of the game. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s president and CEO Jim Ryan confirmed to Eurogamer that it is not Gran Turismo 7 but will be much more than Prologue.

A beta version of the game is expected in spring 2016. Are you excited about this new announcement? Or should they all just get on with making Gran Turismo 7? Let us know in the comments…
