Audi Allegedly Developed VW's Emissions Fixing Software Way Back In 1999
It wasn’t until around 2009 that VW started using emissions rigging software in its cars, but according to a report in German newspaper Handelsblatt, the software had already been around for 10 years at that point. Citing company and industry sources, the paper reports that Audi engineers created software which could turn off “certain engine functions” way back in 1999, but the company itself never used it.
Instead, parent firm VW used the software to cheat emissions tests by altering the way its cars ran when under test conditions. In the end, it emerged 11 million cars had been subject to emissions fiddling. VW and Audi have so far declined to comment on Handelsblatt’s report due to the ongoing investigation into the scandal.
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi has admitted that it has also dabbled in emissions test rigging, with 625,000 cars affected. The announcement has wiped $1.2 billion off the company’s value.

I care about emissions. I care about my health. I care about many people I know that died of lung cancer due to prolonged exposure to diesel fumes.

Really, if you are sitting behind ANY car with an internal combustion engine while it’s running, and you are close enough to smell it, you are shortening your life. People are acting all high and mighty that VW are the devil for cheating the pretty much impossible standards, whilst half of them have probably removed the catalytic converter from their cars, or haven’t changed it since the car rolled out of the factory.

I guarantee other car companies have done it as well, The majority of cars from 2008-2013 that boasted 60+ mpg were running much less in practicality.
Nowhere in this article do they say that audi developed software for the specific purpose of cheating emissions tests. All they say is that they developed software to turn off certain engine features, which could serve any kind of purpose besides cheating emissions on tests. What a stupidly sensationalist article.
2016 - the year we are reminded every car company has cheated to get a head. In some cases, they have made a killing in profits.
LOL i knew it, all these VW’s even smell different to a normal diesel. so i dont know how it took them this long to actually work it out.
