Before I get started, I promise not to give you any real spoilers! But what I will say is that Fast & Furious 7 is the most ridiculous film I’ve ever watched.

On more than 10 occasions, I and an IMAX movie theatre of 500 people laughed out loud as Dominic Toretto lifted up and held a Lykan Hypersport for a solid five minutes while Brian O’Conner (the late Paul Walker) fiddled with some electrics underneath. The Lykan was then jumped from the penthouse suite of one building to another building in Abu Dhabi. Twice.

But this stunt isn’t even scratching the surface. There are insane jumps from cars, epic man on man (and woman on woman) fight scenes (Jason Statham and The Rock go at it like a pair of wild beasts) and more close-up camera shots of scantily-clad bums, breasts and more bums, than any bloke can handle; the directors really have turned the sex-ometer up to 11 for Furious 7, so this probably isn’t one to take a girl on a first date.

Of course, F&F wouldn’t be what it is today if it wasn’t for the punch lines, and my particular favourite came courtesy of Roman (aka Tyrese Gibson). While at a penthouse party in Abu Dhabi, Roman looks around at the countless dancing girls and says: “I’m gonna start me a new culture and call it Blarab for black Arab”…what can I say, he’s clearly taken with the culture.

Intertwined in all the madness, fighting, shooting, jumping, ramming and insane driving is something far more meaningful. And that is the memory of the late Paul Walker.

We see him very early on in the film, and it’s at that point that you’ll feel a little pull of sadness. But that sadness quickly fades when the action kicks off and Brian O’Conner kicks ass. His final part of the Fast & Furious series is easily his best performance to date and one that will stay with me for a long time. Oh, and at no point did I look at a scene and realise ‘oh, that’s his brother/body double filling in in his absence’. The editing is that slick. The movie ends on a wonderfully emotional note, so be prepared to fight the man tears when they come.

In short, then, Fast & Furious 7 is ridiculous to the point of laughter. It’s action-packed, funny, emotional and reminds us all of the real importance of family. It’s the perfect movie for any petrolhead who doesn’t take themselves too seriously. And for that, it’s now a movie that I’m very keen on watching for a second time when it’s officially released on 3rd April.
