The Bentley Bentayga Is In Line For Two New, Fuel-Sipping Engines
The Bentley Bentayga is in line for two more efficient drivetrains borrowed from Volkswagen Group partners, according to reports.
A V8 petrol engine and a V6-based hybrid are the rumoured options, but the German source material referenced by CarScoops doesn’t appear to suggest anything of the sort.
At present the Bentayga (falcon optional) uses the relatively lightweight W12 petrol and always impressive V8 diesel engines from the VAG stable. The addition of a V8 would provide a lower starting price for Bentley’s most rounded and capable car to date, and would fall into line with previous decisions by the firm.
The new Continental GT is for now limited to the new W12 as well, but a V8 with cylinder deactivation is a nailed-on certainty for that car. It seems likely enough that Bentley would bung it into the Bentayga as well, but we’ll need to keep our eyes peeled for clearer proof if and when it’s confirmed.
The second powertrain would be taken, the article suggests, from the old Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid. CarScoops, quoting text from AutoMotorUndSport that we can’t find, says that it would use a 3.0-litre supercharged V8 plug-in hybrid system.
That engine doesn’t exist, though, and didn’t even in the Panamera S E-Hybrid, which used a supercharged 3.0-litre V6. We suspect a typo. It also seems really unlikely that Bentley would revert to old tech rather than looking at the current Panamera 4 E-Hybrid’s 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 setup. If a hybrid Bentayga arrives in 2018, our money would be on the latter being under the bonnet.

Will it really be fuel efficient?
Oh that’s cheeky
You…
Call me prejudiced but I just can’t get excited about any steaming turd shaped vehicle with a posh badge on it. It looks revolting regardless of whatever engine it has…
Yup, it looks like an Korean S.U.V.
I misread the headline as “Bentley Bentayga gets an inline four” xD
I misread it as “Bentley Bentayga gets a inline Fortwo”.
ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED BENTLEY OWNS SMART
I misread it as ‘’Bentley Bentagyga is in line for two new LS and Rotary engines
You can’t have a V6 in a Bentley. You just can’t.
“3.0-litre supercharged V8 plug-in hybrid system”
Do you actually believe what you wrote? :) Even if it’s a typo and you meant V6, I can bet you any money you won’t see any supercharged engines in the Bentayga

Hmmmmmmmmm
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Is it just me or is a v6 bentley inherently wrong? I mean a v6 is in some way the “cheap performance engine” as it’s in cars like hyundais and kias and such. Not that engine layout says anything about an engine, but the whiff stays…
oh dear. Rolls Royce SUV may have just won the game if they avoid the german engine source trap.
BEN the bentleys cousin that likes to eat a lot Bumble🅱️ee
