Bizarre Lawsuit Results In Porsche Reimbursing Owners For Sunglasses

If you have a Porsche of the right age and with the right interior trim, a bemusing out-of-court settlement could cover the cost of a pair of shades...
Bizarre Lawsuit Results In Porsche Reimbursing Owners For Sunglasses

I know it’s only Monday, but I think we can safely say this will end up beingthe weirdest car news story of the week. And it all revolves around sunglasses.

A class-action lawsuit has been brought to Porsche, alleging that cars from the manufacturer with certain trim options have issues with glare off the top of the dashboard. Specifically, cars built from 2007 - 2016 with Cognac, Luxor Beige, Natural Brown, Platinum Grey, and Sand Beige-trimmed dashboards.

It seems Porsche decided to settle out-of-court back in December 2016 according to Car Complaints, with the terms discovered by Motor Trend much more recently. It goes like this: if you were forced to buy shades as a result of your shiny Porsche dashboard, you’ll be reimbursed anything up to $175. Seriously.

Even the full payout isn't enough to cover a pair of these bad boys

Exactly how much you’ll get depends upon the age of the Porsche. Former owners/lessees of 2007-2010 models can expect just $50, while current owners of Porsches from the same era will get $75. If it’s a 2011 - 2016 model, you’ll receive the full $175.

That’s enough to cover a natty pair of Rayban Wayfarers, but ironically not enough for some Porsche Design sunglasses - the cheapest we could find in the US store are $250.

As for Porsche’s stance on the issue, it claimed that no owners reported that they had to stop driving due to the issue. Stuttgart also said that no plaintiffs were injured due to the ‘rogue’ beige-trimmed dashboards.

If this is the case then someone should lead a lawsuit against Mercedes-AMG for deciding to ditch the V8 engine. Wonder how that would turn out… 🤔

Anyone can sue anyone for anything in the US. Doesn’t mean you’ll win, and if you lose, you’re out a bunch of money and often times end up paying the legal fees of the person/persons you wrongly sued. Especially if those people counter-sue. It’s a fun realty-TV style justice system we have here, entertaining to say the least

Haha $175? As a teenager that’s like getting $1,000 but realistically? Just work an extra hour for a week and you make that. That’s hilarious

I remember having to put some sunglasses on because the car in front of me had a chrome rear bumper. Do I get anything?
