Is This A BMW M2 CSL Belting Around The Nurburgring?

A camo'd M2 belting around the Nordschleife has piqued our curiosity. Is this the rumoured M2 CSL?

It’s an M2, it’s wearing camo, it looks a little lower than standard, and it’s going around the Nurburgring very fast. So what else can this car be other than a hotter M2?

BMW has previously said that it won’t build an ultra-expensive, ultra-hardcore M2 GTS, but when we spoke to M boss Fran van Meel earlier this year, he did drop a little hint that seemed to suggest an M2 CSL might well be on the cards. A CSL M2 has since been rumoured through various reports, too.

It’d be awesome to see BMW give the M2 the one thing it’s missing - a proper S engine, perhaps the S55 from the M4 - but a small bump in power from the existing N55 is what we’d expect. As well as the aforementioned drop in ride height, we can also expect a wider track, beefier brakes and some weight reduction. And if it’s anything like the old E46 M3 CSL, it’ll be worth a gazillion pounds in 10 or so years.

Big question: why though? Isn’t that what the M4 is for?

The way I look at; the E46 M3 CSL and the M2 are damn near the same size. I know that I’m not the only one that would take the M2 over the M4 due to its more UK road friendly proportions.

Does the camo mean anything? Is it just because they haven’t finished it yet or?

Its an industrial practice, to ‘disguise’ their up-coming products, so that people don’t suspect a thing——Which they do, by the way.

Disguise the overall shape of the car through “normal” pictures. I read somewhere that you can edit pictures of a camouflaged car to show the shape of it.

Problem with the E63 is, it’s AWD. So if you want an executive supersaloon that can do huge burnouts and mad skids (and who doesn’t?) the M5 is your only option. Which, when fitted with the Competition Package and optional M-Performance exhaust, is probably the best executive supersaloon on the market.

But the GTS series more or less replaces the CSL series, so realistically I’m thinking that this is a facelift or a competition pack. Otherwise it’s have an outrageous body kit and a wing
